Course Outcome Competencies:Upon completion of this course the student should be able to: - Describe the key competencies necessary for managerial effectiveness;- Identify how personalities and attitudes affect behavior, commitment, and organizational effectiveness;- Describe motivation and the motivational process;- Explain the concepts of stress and the stressors that affect organizational performance;- Contrast the basic characteristics of groups (formal and informal) and teams;- Identify the different styles of conflict handling and different negotiation strategies;- Identify the essentials of effective leadership; assess the limitations on a leader’s impact;- Discuss how interpersonal communication affects relationships among employees;- Explain the basic concepts, principles, and models for making ethical decisions;- Explain how organizational cultures are formed, sustained, and changed;- Identify key pressures for change;- Describe common reasons for individual and organizational resistance to change and methods for promotingchange.14. Be prepared to talk about the concepts discussed in the reading and the end of chapter questions and exercises in class. In-Class Participation and Preparedness: This includes verbal participation during in class exercises, activities, preparedness, and contributions to class discussions. There will be various in-class exercises using outside material and end-of-chapter exercises and questions. You will be evaluated on your understanding of each week’s reading and ability to actively participate during class discussions and exercises. Article Review: Select and analyze an article that relates to organizational culture or organization behavior. Prepare a 2 to 3 page paper, including 1 page that summarizes the article and 1 to 2 pages that analyzes the article’s ideas and how they apply to the topics the class is studying. Provide a copy of the article for the instructor. Cite at least two (2) other sources within your paper that support your analysis. Use APA format to cite reference and format the paper.Personality Assessment and Paper: Go to http://humanmetrics.com%252Fcgi-win%252FJTypes2.asp and answer the questions. This site provides you with a percentage of strength across the four dichotomies addressed in the MBTI Personality Type Assessment. Review your type and the other types.Prepare a 3 to 4 page paper that includes your agreements and disagreements about your personality, andwhy an understanding of personality type is important to you as a person, and to leaders. Company Analysis Paper: Prepare a 3 to 4 page paper analyzing why a company was selected to the “Fortune Top 100 Companies to work for” list. Contemporary Leadership Paper: Prepare a 3 to 4 page paper discussing your analysis of a contemporary American business leader. As part of your analysis, evaluate his or her leadership style, the organizational culture the leader creates, motivation style, communication style, and the leader’s effectiveness. Cite at least four (4) sources within your paper that support your analysis.Importance of Effective Communications Paper: Prepare a 3 to 4 page paper discussing organizational communications. Discuss effective and ineffective internal communication; the impact ofeach; actions and processes leaders can take to ensure effective communications; and the impact of goodand bad communications on employees and the organization.
