The third exam is to be a composite of shortquizzes – generally one per week or week and one-half – on the mostrecent readings and lecture notes/slides. These quizzes will NOT be announced ahead of time. At the time of this writing, my intent is to accumulate enough points viashort quizzes (somewhere around 10 to 15 points each quiz) to arrive at100 points; that is, the equivalent of a third exam. It is also planned that‘if’ enough of these exams are given so as to exceed 100 points in total, then one or more of these short quizzes may be dropped, so that the ‘best’your quiz scores will be counted. There is, however, no guarantee thatquizzes exceeding 100 points in total will be given. These short quizzescannot be made up or given at different times. Should you miss class andif a quiz was administered during that period, then this may adverselyimpact your final grade. It is thus an imperative that the readings be done (see course syllabus)and the slides presented in lectures are reviewed in a consistent mannerso that you are always ‘on top’ of things. The nature of the materials wewill be studying requires a steady approach to studying. Full appreciationof the notations, techniques, and processes we discuss cannot beeffectively garnered from cramming at exam time.Deliverables / Presentations:*There will be approximately five deliverables which will are documentedunder separate link. Every attempt will be made to have a completedescription of each deliverable in this link. However, if I have not beenclear or if you have any question, please do not hesitate to ask. We willalso discuss the deliverables during class time. If you recall, there were anumber of refinements made to the deliverables. The link, ProjectDeliverables and Schedule, will be versioned, and I will also announce inclass and send email announcing any changes / clarifications to thisschedule. 2Grade Guidelines: (Same for CIS 4327)0. Every one wants an A. Frankly, I would be pleased to record A grades foreveryone. Unfortunately this rarely happens. But here is the simple key to your‘earning’ an A – and, I might add, more importantly, learning the material that isessential to your success as a graduate and professional in this field. 1. DON’T MISS CLASS! If you are one who misses classes to study for other courses or for other reasons, these are NOT classes that you want to miss. There is simply too much material passed on. If you must miss class, then do NOT assume that the slides are substitutes for the lecture. They are not.2. BE SMART: DOWNLOAD SLIDES AND BRING TO CLASS! My lectures will come from these slides, which are updated every semester with the latest information. They are not sufficient in themselvesas sources of study. Bring your copies to class and mark on them as I discuss the materials in class. These slides are on my web page for you so you don’t have to write volumes of notes during lecture and you can listen. Take advantage of this opportunity. The notes and the associated readings form the basis for the short quizzes and, moreso, the formal examinations.3. DON’T MISS THE READING ASSIGNMENTS! BE READY FOR CLASS.You will be selling yourself short and not get the full impact of the lectures and the broadening presented to you in the readings. These readings are the ‘latest.’ They are critical to understanding the material.4. WORK SMARTER – NOT HARDER!‘Front-end’ everything. This means to jump on assignments once they arein scope. Don’t put them off! Don’t depend totally on your partners for their parts of the project and just ‘assemble’ them. This is a recipe for failure fur sure. Allow time. If you front end and work smart, there is time to resolve problems, ensure your deliverables look as if they came from a single source – and not five sources, and there is time to ask questions and resolve problems BEFORE the due date. Again, work smarter – not harder. This was a noticeable problem in Senior Project 1 – deliverablessubmitted for grading that were disjoint hunks of models clearly lacking aconsistent, team-level review. Deliverables are team efforts and the team leader(or his designee) must take responsible for ensuring the integrity of theassignment.35. WORK THE COURSE EVERY DAY!Don’t be foolish and wait until two major exams are announced and then start to study. This material cannot be memorized. It requires an ‘understanding’ and a ‘maturity’ that can only come from studying,
