Students will be able to 1 Reading Analyze and interpret a variety of printed materials books maps documents and articles above the 12th grade level 2 Writing Produce clear correct and coherent prose adapted to purpose occasion and audience above the 12th grade level 3 Listening Analyze and interpret various forms of spoken communication and possess sufficient literacy skills of writing and reading above the 12th grade level 4 Critical Thinking Think and analyze at a critical level History 1301 Student Learning Outcomes SLOs Students will be able to 1 Understand the contact between Native Americans and European colonizers 2 Know the heritage of the colonial period of American history 3 Analyze the causes events and consequences of the American Revolution 4 Explain the Confederation crisis and the development of the Constitution 5 Know the major events of the early National Period 6 Understand the causes and consequences of the Industrial Revolution in the United States 7 Know the contributions of the varied cultural influences in early American history 1 8 9 10 11 Explain the social and political impact of the Jacksonian Era Analyze the role of Manifest Destiny in the territorial expansion and slavery Understand the causes events and consequences of the Civil War Know the major events of Reconstruction Testing and Evaluation Student evaluation will be accomplished through regular Quizzes and three 3 Exams throughout the semester the last of which will be given at the time scheduled for the final exam QUIZZES A few quizzes will be in the form of take home worksheets but most will be timed date sensitive quizzes which must be taken on line through our eCampus course shell Our eCampus course shell can accesses from a home computer with internet access and or the computers available in campus computer labs It is your responsibility to become proficient in using eCampus course materials To prepare for an on line quiz 1 For each class period find your reading assignment and study guide on eCampus Download the study guide 2 Do the reading As you read answer the questions and note the terms on the study guide 3 With your study guide notes handy find the quiz on line and take it Remember that the quizzes are timed you will have a set number of minutes in which to finish the quiz once you start it and date sensitive each quiz must be taken by the beginning of class time on the date of that class period for which it is assigned EXAMS The three exams worth 100 points each will be comprised of identification essay questions with a combination of multiple choice matching and or fill in the blank questions The worth of each of these sections will be determined by the professor and announced to students during the last lecture prior to any exam See the class calendar for exam dates Your final course grade will be calculated by averaging your quiz scores the two lowest will be dropped Quizzes will count 20 toward your final grade Exam 1 will count 20 exam 2 will count 30 and the final exam will count 30 respectively The grading scale is 90 100 A 80 89 B 70 79 C 60 69 D and anything below 60 F No make up quizzes or exams will be given The two lowest or missed quiz scores will be dropped prior to averaging It is your responsibility to make sure that you attend class on exam days If you have an emergency please contact the instructor by email immediately Attendance Policy Consistent attendance is absolutely critical to your success in this course particularly since lectures films and other inclass assignments comprise the bulk of the material on which you will be tested Thus we will circulate an attendance sheet each day Two unexcused absences will be forgiven These absences are intended for emergencies and sickness Each additional unexcused absence will result in the reduction of your final grade by one point Obtaining Final Course Grades Using eConnect Final Grade Reports are no longer mailed Convenient access is available online at www econnect dcccd edu Use your identification number when you log onto eConnect an online system developed by the DCCCD to provide you with timely information regarding your college record Your grades will also be printed on your Student Advising Report which is available in the Admissions Office Eastfield College Email Policy Faculty and students must have
