CPR Basic Information for Chemistry 14BL Spring 2005 http cpr2 molsci ucla edu cpr cpr login asp Getting Started with CPR You need a browser Internet Explorer v 4 later or Netscape Navigator v 4 later and an Internet connection Bruin Online EarthLink etc You will need to know your CPR Username and your password to access the CPR program If you have used the CPR program before you already have your CPR login username and password If you have forgotten your login information then you can retrieve this information by connecting to the CPR login page see URL above and selecting Users forgot your login information If you have NEVER used the program not will not have your CPR Username and you must complete the account profile All New Users MUST complete an account profile To complete an account profile 1 Connect to the following URL http cpr2 molsci ucla edu cpr cpr login asp 2 3 Select New Users first time logging in 4 Select UCLA from the pull down menu and enter your UCLA student ID number 5 Next you will select a password You will also need to enter a challenge question and answer This challenge question will be used if you forget your login information You may enter your email address This is optional and will only be used to notify users of CPR related issues 6 Upon completion of your account profile you will be given your unique CPR Username Make sure that you save your CPR Username You will need it every time you access CPR Before starting your first CPR assignment After entering your CPR username and password you will be directed to take a 10 minute Tour Click on the CPR Guided Tour link and then the Taking an Assignment link Take the short PreTest for new users All information necessary to complete the PreTest can be found in the CPR Tour Taking an Assignment You must take this tour prior to taking the PreTest NEW Assignment Structure three stages are required to complete the assignment There are three separate stages in a CPR assignment For your first assignment this quarter Stage 1 begins with Assignment Start Time 11 30am on Tuesday April 12 2005 During this stage you will a explore source material about the assignment topic b write about the topic NOTE Save your text to your local computer or to a floppy disk before submitting it This will serve as a backup should a problem occur during the submission process ends with Text Entry End Time 11 30am on Tuesday April 19 2005 Stage 2 begins with Calibrations Start Time 4 30pm on Tuesday April 19 2005 During this stage you will evaluate a example texts written specifically for this assignment These evaluations are called calibrations ends with Calibrations End Time 4 30pm on Friday April 22 2005 Stage 3 begins with Reviews Start Time 4 30pm on Friday April 22 2005 During this stage you will evaluate a three texts written by your classmates This stage is called reviews b your own text This stage is called self assessment ends with Assignment End Time 11 30am on Tuesday April 26 After the assignment ends During this stage you will check the results of the assignment HTML Tags formatting B text B Displays the enclosed text in boldface B HI B gives HI I text I Displays text BR Inserts a line break P text P Defines a paragraph Evaluating texts When assigning a rating to a text use the whole scale of 10 points The following guidelines define the criteria for scores 1 or 2 The discussion is completely unsatisfactory It does not demonstrate an understanding of the principles Serious mis statements have been made The discussion is disorganized and unclear 3 or 4 The discussion is not a finished effort Only a vague understanding of the principles involved is demonstrated Erroneous statements have been made Important principles have been omitted The text lacks good organization or clarity in presentation 5 or 6 The discussion is acceptable but does not demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of the concepts It omits important principles and possibly contains irrelevant statements An attempt at organization and clear presentation has been made 7 or 8 The discussion is a good quality effort It demonstrates an understanding of the principles and no erroneous statements are made Some inappropriate references to details or irrelevant statements may be included The text is organized and clear 9 or 10 The discussion excels in all areas A sophisticated understanding of the concepts is demonstrated without unnecessary statements All statements are correct The text is well organized and clearly presented Important Points CPR uses a centralized UCLA time and does NOT use the time on a local computer i e your home computer You can check the CPR time by clicking on the CPR Time link on the top of the assignment screens CPR depends on ALL students finishing assignments Problems should be reported immediately to CPR technical support to insure the highest possible completion rate by students Always save your text entry on another computer or floppy disk before submitting it to CPR Most Internet Service Providers i e Bruin On Line America OnLine terminate Internet connections that have not been used for more than 15 20 minutes If a connection is terminated and you try to submit work it will be LOST You should always complete each stage of the assignment earlier than the due date If there are technical difficulties with the program you still have time to re submit the assignment If you wait till the last minutes and if there are problems with the program you will miss the due date You will NOT be allowed to complete the assignment in you do not do Stage 1 and submit a text This means that if you miss the deadline for Stage 1 see above of the CPR assignment your score for the whole assignment will be ZERO
