(chapters 12-16)Philosophy: This course will require an understanding of the material covered in the previoustwo semesters of Calculus. Before coming to class, quickly read the section of the text to becovered in that lecture in order to have an idea of the material to be covered in class. After classgo through your class notes and the suggested homework problems. Study groups are encouraged.Evaluation: Grades in this course are based upon the point total of the scores from 3 in-classexams (100 points each), 3 homework assignments (40 points total), and 3 quizzes (60 pointstotal), and a final exam (200 points). Out of 600 total points possible, the following grading scalewill be used to determine your grade.90%-100% 4.0 73%-78% 2.5 55%-59% 1.085%-89% 3.5 65%-72% 2.0 0%-54% 0.079%-84% 3.0 60%-64% 1.5Attendance: Students are expected to attend all class meetings and are responsible for all of thematerial covered. Changes in this syllabus and details on homework and quizzes will be announcedduring class meetings. No make-up quizzes or exams will be given. Examine this syllabus andplan around the exams. Only extreme situations with a d ocumented excuse will be considered,otherwise missed exams will receive a score of 0 points. Commercial travel schedules are notexcuses. Students who miss a lecture are responsible for obtaining the notes from a classmate.Early homework is welcome but no late homework will be accepted.Calculators: Use of calculators is permitted and encouraged when doing homework problems.On the other hand, calculators and any other electronic devices will not be allowed during quizzesand exams. If you have to bring your cell phone, keep it turned off during class time.Homework: This class is homework intensive. A number of homework problems for study (listedin the last page) have been selected for each lectu re in the course, and additional problems havebeen selected for exam r eview. If you don’t have time to do the homework, you don’t have timeto t ake the course. Only some of these will be collected, as announced in class.Help: Please feel free to ask me any questions about the material. Students are encour aged tovisit the Math Learning Center. It is located on the first floor of A-Wing of Wells Hall, open onMTWR 4–7pm. It provides a good atmosphere both for personal study and also for getting help.Student code of conduct: Students are responsible for prerequisites. Students can work ingroups. No student sh all claim or submit the work of another as one’s own work.
