Oxidative Phosphorylation
the process in the inner mitochondrial membrane in which electrons from NADH and FADH2 travel down the electron transport chain to ultimately reduce O2 to H2O, along the way causing protons to be pumped across the membrane to store energy in a proton gradient. Protons flow back down this gradient through ATP synthase to generate the vast majority of ATP made in the cell.
