Reproductive cells made in testes; The sperm unites with the ovum
Seminiferous Tubules
Tubules in testes where sperm is made
Interstial Cells
Cell between seminiferous tubules that secrete testosterone and hormones
Vasa Efferentia
Larger Tubes within testes; Sperm move here after being produced by seminiferous tubules
Vas Deferens
Tube that leads sperm upward from each testes
Anorchism
A male born without testes
Cyptorchidism
When testes have not dropped into scrotum
Monorchidism
Born with only 1 teste
Testicular Failure
Lack of sperm Lack of hormone
Empidytimitis
Inflamed epididymis in testes
Penis
Male sex organ; becomes erect. Also leads urine and sperm out of the body
Glans
Sensitive head of the peins
Frenulum
Tight, thin skin under penile glans
Corona
Ridge under head of the penis
Foreskin
Fold of skin covering penile glans; Prepuce
Shaft
Cylindrical base of penis Contain 3 columns of spongy tissue: 2 corpora cavernosa and 1 corpus spongiousm
Urethra
Tube that passes through body from bladder
Erection
Enlargement & Stiffening; Blood engrorges spongy tissue
Cyclic GMP
Secretion without spongy tissue; Facilitates erections
Circumcision
Surgical removal of foreskin
Phimosis
Penile foreskin that is too long and too tight
Priapism
Continual, undesired, painful erection lasting more than 4 hrs
Peyonie's Disease
Developing fibrous tissue within spongy colums
Agenesis
Undersized; non functioning penis
Hypospadias
Incomplete closure of urethra
Epispadias
Urine empties out the abdominal opening when urethra isn't formed properly
Seminal Vesicle
Gland and end of each vas deferens: secretes chemical that helps sperm become mobile
Prostate
gland beneath bladder; produces some secretion
Semen
Mixture of fluid and sperm
Cowper's glands
2 small glands secrete alkaline fluid during arousal to balance acidic urine
Bulbourethral glands
(cowper's glands)
Prostatitis
Inflammation of prostate glands
Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia
Enlargement of the prostate gland
Interstitial Cell- stimulating hormone
Pituitary hormone stimulates testes to secrete testosterone; Also, Luteinizing hormones in females
Spermatocytes
Cells lining seminiferous tubules
Orgasm
Pleasurable sensations and contraction that release sexual tension
Ejactulation
Muscular expulsion of semen from penis
Retrograde Ejaculation
Passage of semen into bladder during ejaculation
Anejaculation
Lack of ejaculation during orgasm
Male- Climacteric
Vague period in male mid life where there are hormonal, psychological, and sexual changes.
Testosterone Replacement Therapy
Injections used to increase sex interest and potency in older men
