All assignments must be completed and submitted through D2L electronically as PDF documents by midnight of the day before the class for which they are due. Use your last name, followed by the number of the project (such as in Kaldjian #1.pdf) to identify your assignments. Grading assignments: Your work in this course will be graded on content, organization, clarity, creativity, syntax, grammar, diction, and format. For examples of writing format and style, use these web links: The Professional Geographer and the AAG's Annals. These journals follow the Chicago Manual of Style, 15th ed. (Physical geographers may also want to be familiar with the stylistic requirements of the Geological Society of America). CLASS PARTICIPATION (5%) Participation: Simply attending class is insufficient; you need to be actively engaged in class discussions, computer lab work, and field trips. You will need to have read and critically reflect on the assignments before class, and then share your thoughts with fellow classmates during class discussions. Use bold-faced headers to identify each assignment. Assignment #1: Geographical Approaches (5%) Summarize and evaluate the major geographical traditions and approaches as they are discussed in the assigned readings for this assignment. Discuss the place of your work in it. Use bold-faced header titles for each major idea in your paper. Be sure to reference the relevant citations. Assignment #2: Geographical Concepts (5%) Summarize and evaulate the major geographical concepts which are expressed in the Geographical Standards from the readings. Group them under each of the major geographical approaches and traditions from Assignment#1. Be to reference the relevant citations. Be sure to include all previous assignments at the end of your paper. Assignment #5: Your Research Questions (5%) State the general and specific research questions and/or hypothesis for your project. This will be based on your thoughts after reviewing the literature on your topic, the geographical traditions, and concepts.
