Your grade for this course will be based on the results of three examinations (30% each) plus your class attendance and participation (10%). While attendance normally counts for just this 10% the professor reserves the right to increase its value up to 50% if necessary deal with cases of chronic absence. Quizzes may also be given. The following books are required for this course and should be purchased in one of the bookstores: - Patterson, The American Democracy, (Text), 8th Edition - Patterson, Study Guide to Accompany ‘The American Democracy, 8th Edition - Bowers, The Sagebrush State (3nd Edition) - Academic Printing Services, UNLV, Student Workbook Cell Phones: Please be certain turn off all cell phones prior to the start of each class. If your cell rings during class you will receive one warning. After that you will be asked to leave class for the rest of the evening. Recording: I will be happy to allow you to record my lectures, if you ask permission. However, any unauthorized recording (on cell phone, camera, recorder, etc) and/or distribution will subject you to civil suit. POLICY REGARDING MAKE-UP EXAMS: Ordinarily no makeups will be given. However, if extraordinary circumstances seem to require one, then students must do the following in order to qualify: (1) inform the instructor of the problem at some time prior to the exam itself and (2) provide documentation afterwards. All make-up exams will be given on the afternoon of December 4, 2007. They will be essay in nature.
