Name: ID #: Department of Mechanical Engineering ME EN 4000 - Engineering Design I Engineering Lab 1 Assigned: Thursday, September 8, 2005 Due: Friday, September 16, 2005, 12pm (noon), 2110 MEB Introduction This first lab teaches the basics of solid modeling: linear and rotational extrusions, mirrored cuts, bevels, rounds, and threaded holes. Task Create a solid model based on the attached drawing. Print out the completed model and write your name on the printout. Hints The part to be modeled uses metric dimensions - be sure to switch the part units to metric. Engineering drawings in Pro/ENGINEER derive their dimensions directly from the part files – be sure to model all parts accordingly. Symmetry is a powerful design principle - place datum planes according to part symmetry. Minimize the number of dimensions by using symmetry as a constraint - this requires the placement of centerlines in the sketched sections. Threaded holes of standard size are now available in Pro/ENGINEER, eliminating the need for drilling holes and placing cosmetic threads separately. In order to obtain a dimension based on diameter rather than radius, first select the feature line, then the center line, and then the feature line again before placing a new dimension. Keep your section sketches simple - it is better to have a large number of simple sections than a small number of complex
