How to make a bar graph in Microsoft Excel For this example we will graph the pulse rates based on the data presented on page 62 of the lab manual 1 Open Microsoft Excel and type in the data as it appears in the lab manual for the exercise example in the lab text It should look something like the following when finished 2 Select the cells that contain the pulse rate data including the headings by clicking and dragging Cells A1 to C4 3 Click the insert tab 4 Select the column option and click 2D clustered column 5 The Chart should appear in the worksheet as below 6 Click the Design tab and select the layout 9 option Click this design for the final h You can click any of these color designs to change the color of the bars 7 The graph should look like this 8 To change the appearance of the bars right click any of the bars and select format data series The gradient fill option in this version of excel only has solid colors with different orientations No striped pattern Click any of the series option to make changes to the borders and fill effects To close the gap between the bars click series option and then make sure the series overlap is set at 0 9 To move the chart legend to the bottom of the chart right click anywhere on the legend and select the format legend option Select bottom for the legend position and close 10 The final chart should look something like below with a chart title and all axis labeled Click on the chart title heading and press delete to remove the heading
