PRADNYA GHORPADE LAB REPORT 2 JUNE 4 2023 Goal The helium neon laser and optical power meter were introduced as the first objectives The power meter will be introduced to demonstrate how power from light sources like LEDs and lasers works By showing how reducing the distance for the uncertainty in location would increase the separation of the diffracted waves Lab 2 s second objective is to illustrate Heisenberg s uncertainty principle The Heisenberg uncertainty principle will also be expanded upon in this lab and interference will be observed when the slit s opening is decreased Accomplishment The TSL 2591 light sensor and Red Board were successfully connected allowing me to detect light and gauge its strength over a range of wavelengths including visible and infrared waves The output of the light sensor was shown and recorded using the Arduino Serial Monitor Furthermore by setting up the laser diode and using the 200 and 500 mesh grids to view the spot size in this lab we were also able to do so As we measure the distance between the center beam and the first order minimum the diffraction principle is demonstrated Discussion The spacing between the center beam and the diffracted beams is increased by shortening the space between the mesh slits I computed 34 9 10 3 m for the distance between the light waves on the screen I determined that the constructive interference had a sin 1 th value of 1 11 10 6 This allows us to determine the angle of divergence which is sin 1 th 0 5007880513 degrees IR 375 86 204 Ambient Room Light toward ceiling Room Light off with TSL pointed toward ceiling Room Light off with TSL under sunlight Nearby window FULL 2016 385 511 VISIBLE 1641 LUX 72 665039 299 307 12 6322 10 033 2032 20031 17999 879 81 Room Light off with the flashlight from kit 12 inches away Figure 1 200 Mesh laser diode beam divergence Figure 2 500 Mesh laser diode beam divergence Raw Data NA Discussion of error The computations that are wanted such as how far apart the bright spots are have a chance of making mistakes The primary cause of this inaccuracy is the separation measurement instrument
