Course description: Study of the characteristics, needs, and appropriate service delivery systems, which create success for young children and their families. Included in the course will be information addressing recent research on the initial patterns of brain development, learning, and behavior that affect the nature of all subsequent development. This course will prepare early childhood and early intervention professionals to consider developmental and systems theory factors in order to promote success for all young children and their families. The course objectives articulate with the Richard W. Riley College of Education Conceptual Framework, the standards of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE: see http://ncate.org/2000/2000stds.pdf), the Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (INTASC: see http://www.ccsso.org/intasc.html), and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) see http://www.naeyc.org/naeyc.11.
