Business X 410 Assignment 9 Part 1 Interview Questions 1 Why do you think you would be a fit here at XYZ High School I love working with kids and helping them achieve their athletic goals But as a past player I know baseball does not come before their studies I would want to be a figure the kids could look up to and ask me about anything they are having problems with on or off the field 2 What can you offer that other coaching candidates are not able to offer I offer years of experiencing different kinds of coaching from a players perspective These unique methods of coaching have trained my abilities to instruct just as much as it did to perform And from these coaching styles I can sort out through the ones that were most effective to the team not just to me as an individual 3 If you had to give someone a player in this case difficult feedback how would you handle it I would make sure to confront the individual one on one as to keep from demeaning him in front of the rest of the team Make sure to tell him why he was receiving this negative feedback and couple my reasoning with future opportunities that he can take advantage of to improve I have realized from the receiving end of the feedback which this was one of the few ways I could walk away from the confrontation with an idea of what I did wrong and some confidence on a way to better 4 How will you gain the players trust The parents trust As a player I wanted to be given the same chances as everyone else No matter what how good or how prominent someone s role on the team last year the current year is all that matters I would inform the players that this is a new year Every senior will have to earn their spot just like any freshman or sophomore will have to do To the parents I would give them a paper informing them that their child is playing for a new coach who has priorities towards school come before those of their child s extracurricular activities I will inform them that I will not put up with poor grades or misconduct off the field 5 What will be you main coaching philosophy It s not just about baseball The philosophy can be applied to anything a person wants to work for in life Willing themselves to work hard on the baseball field can be applied to off the field situations 6 What steps will you take when a teacher informs you of a player s attitude in his or her classroom The player shall be reprimanded If I cannot trust the player to behave off the field especially in a classroom environment they will be punished accordingly 7 What would your opinion be of having multi sport athletes on your team They will be required to put in the same amount of hours as everyone else If one of my players decides to go out for track in the spring as well as playing baseball for me I will allow it as long as he can keep up with the schedule and put in necessary hours of work I might even make a flexible practice schedule depending on the individual s schedule 8 How will you create community interest in the program When I played high school baseball it was a small town similar to Christianburg We had support from the community because a requirement to be on the baseball team was to have at least 40 hours of community service The community very much appreciated our commitment to our team and the service we were providing I believe this is very reasonable way for the players to connect with the community and the community to get to know the players enough to come out and support or even give small donations 9 How will you handle a disgruntled parent concerned with their kid s playing time I will refer back to the paper I handed out before the season started The paper will reiterate my policy towards playing time Everyone will get a chance to play If I feel that the disgruntled parent s child has received his chance and showed he was not ready then I will not lie to the parent 10 How do you feel about replacing a popular coach I respect what he has tried to do as far as the success with the baseball team but what seemed to be the problem was his numbers I plan on starting a youth baseball league to get young boys interested in the game I believe this will help out the community along with getting future numbers up enough to possibly have a freshman team within 3 4 years Part 2 Questions to the Interviewer 1 What would you change about the coaching techniques or commitment the previous coach had to the players school or community 2 What do you like aboutXYZ high school that sets it apart from the other high schools in the area 3 How well do
