Market siteDiscussion Question:  Based on the Kercher (2011) article, what affect does Microsoft Office Live® have on how small medium size businesses design, develop, implement, deploy, and support office systems?Answer: Microsoft Office Live Small Business (OLSB) is great for small to medium sized businesses. The software is expandable as companies grow, it has limited free e-mail campaigns, near-CRM capability, can optionally integrate search engine marketing, e-commerce, offers teamand customer collaboration, traffic reporting, and houses over 20 optional business apps. The bottom line is you get a whole lot for free with this small-business webifier: 500MB of Web storage, one year of domain registration, simple site-building tools, 100 e-mail accounts, and more than 20 integrated business applications, including project and contact management.Microsoft Office Live Small Business gives SMBs the power to start doing business on the Web,yet keeps the process simple.Microsoft Office Live, which is discontinued as of May 1, 2012, will be replaced by Office 365. Microsoft Office Live Small Business (OLSB) is going to be discontinued because of a few hiccups they encountered. Email and calendars don't quite exactly sync with provisioned Hotmailaccounts. Also, resized images don't maintain aspect ratio. Overall, it is being replaced because that's what software companies do... they replace with newer and better products. For small to medium size businesses, Microsoft Office Live includes the following:1. Anti-virus and antispam filtering.2. Cloud-based e-mail, using own domain name.3. IM, PC-to-PC calling, and video conferencing.4. Shared calendars.5. Web-based viewing and editing of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote files.6. External Web site.7. Team site for sharing files.8. Web-based viewing and editing of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote files.9. Community Support. In review, Microsoft Office Live will perform all of the needed functions for a small to medium sized business in regards to design, develop, implement, deploy and support office systems. That is, if the company uses Microsoft tools like Word, Excel, OneNote, PowerPoint, etc...Citation: Kercher, S. (2011). Microsoft Office Live Small Business. Faulkner Information
