it is almost as much as a luxury suite in Las Vegas 3 Basic Types of Insurance Basic for emergencies ex Car wreck pays for ambulance surgery and other needs will cover a certain amount in the hospital for a certain amount of days or a percentage for an extended length of time Everybody needs basic Major Medical Covers your regular visits to the doctor ex Allergy shots special equipment needed such as a colostomy bag physical therapy mental health usually a deductible which is a set amount that you have to pay before the insurance kicks in usually between 80 90 with a copay of 15 25 Comprehensive policy basic and major medical organizations usually offer it under HMO health maintenance organization or a PPO preferred provided under HMO you may have to switch your doctor because they don t take that insurance PPO you could keep your doctor but you are going to have to pay a higher amount than HMO Medicare paid for by SS taxes most states require that there be at least 7 to 10 insurance companies in their state because more competition means lower prices o Medicare Part A basic coverage emergencies o Medicare Part B major medical stuff doctor visits diabetes supplies lab work paid for by writing a check monthly or having it deducted from SS check each month o Medigap fills in the holes of Medicare Part A and B Medicare does not pay a high amount due to all the rules they have Medigap needed to pay for those things o You are automatically enrolled in Medicare unless you specifically check that you do not want to be in the system When choosing your own insurance you must ask yourself exactly what you need and who covers your needs the best Need to look at maximum limits Before the Affordable Care Act companies put a maximum limit on how much they would spend before they would basically throw you off the insurance only a problem if you have chronic illness Affordable Care Act Designed specifically to do 2 things o For people that do not have insurance which at the time was about 40 million Americans it was designed to help them get insurance at a low cost Lowered the income disparity of insurance The more money you have usually the better health care you have this stopped that o Protect and assist people already on insurance Young adults are allowed to stay on their parents insurance until they are 26 used to be until they are graduated from college Most businesses are required now to offer full time insurance to their employees some small businesses under 25 employees can get government money so that they do not lose money providing insurance so they get government supplements a lot of debate on this one because fast food companies are laying off a lot of full time workers because they did not want to pay insurance Insurance companies can no longer delay payments for children and adults with pre existing conditions a condition you have before you sign on Insurance companies have to follow the 80 20 rule which is the best provision out of all the Affordable Care Act 80 of the money that you pay has to go to directly to health care must be spent on the individual if not meant a check is sent to the individual to meat the 80 20 rule Insurance companies can no longer have maximum limits must take care of you until you die It expands Medicare people on Medicare can now get FREE preventative services like mammograms and colonoscopies if a person is not on Medicare and has private insurance they also get free preventative services Debatable almost all Americans must buy insurance If you can t afford private insurance you buy ACA Most states set up exchanges where you choose what company you want to have for Obama Care If you do not get insurance you have to pay a penalty taken out of your There are 8 different taxes put into the bill to pay for it If you sell your house starting in 2015 you have to pay a 15 tax If you have an individual plan or a plan through your job then this will not taxes on
