What is job analysis? Oftentimes job analysis is associated with staffing, but how does it relate to compensation?Job analysis is one tool that HR professionals and compensation professionals use to create job structures to be used consistently within a company. It will contain job content which describes the actual duties & tasks and the skills that are needed to perform the job.I do think that job analysis is associated with staffing as it seems to be used to be able to find the right person for a specific position. It can also be related to compensation as it utilizes SOC - The Standard Occupational Classification System. SOC identifies 23 major occupational groups which can be used by HR for making compensation decisions. It will help because it will outline the skills needed for a position therefore it helps to set the compensation bracket. It provides detailed job information which helps HR to compare the job to decide what pay bands it should be listed under.Jobs that require higher skills and qualifications should have a higher pay associated with it. This tool will help to decide which jobs require these certain skills and qualifications.Response 2According to our textbook by Martocchio (2009), job analysis is “a systematic process for gathering, documenting, and analyzing information in order to describe jobs.” Job analysis is a very useful tool for HR and is associated with staffing. Job analysis describes the duties of the job as well as what is required for the job. It is almost similar to a position description, but is created based on analysis of the duties. It relates to compensation by how the job dutiesare performed and how well or to what extent the employee performs their duties.ReferenceMartocchio, J. J. (2009).
