Eric Hammer 10 10 10 Semantic memory and episodic memory are two main types of long term memory Semantic memory is more involved with general principles and facts i e information learned in school Episodic memory is the memory of specific events in a person s life i e 12th birthday party Semantic memory is more personal For example learning about the attack on Pearl Harbor is semantic memory Remembering your baby cousin s first birthday party is an episodic memory Chunking is the grouping of items into meaningful sequences or clusters A sequence of 7 2 letters numbers items etc is the limit of most people s short term memory capacity in terms of chunks
