The person that I look up to is one of the best motivator is Tuan Guru Dato’ Bentara Setia Haji Nik Abdul Aziz bin Nik Mat. He was the Menteri Besar of Kelantan from 1990 to 2013 and the Mursyidul Am or Spiritual Leader of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) from 1991 until his death in 2015. Overall, his career as an elected politician lasted for some 48 years following his election to the Parliament of Malaysia in 1967.Tuan Guru Haji Nik Abdul Aziz was born in Kampung Pulau Melaka, Kelantan in 10 January 1931 and Tuan Guru was the second of five siblings. He was raised by a single fatherHaji Nik Mat bin Raja Banjar bin Raja Abdullah bin Raja Mamat. Tuan Guru Nik Abdul Aziz's Islamic studies began in pondok schools in Kelantan and Terengganu. He went on to study at Darul Uloom Deoband in Uttar Pradesh, India for five years. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Arabic Studies and Master of Arts in Islamic Jurisprudence from Al-Azhar University, Egypt. During his university studies, he was one of the witnesses and a civilian to have lived in the heat of the Arab-Israeli Conflict. Having returned from Egypt, Nik Aziz began as a teacher at various religious schools in Kelantan, hence his popular nickname "Tok Guru".Tok Guru Nik Abdul Aziz seriously join the Parti Islam Semalaysia or PAS after resigned as the adult class teacher. In a few month after that, in 1967, he was offered as the candidate for by-election for Kelantan Hilir (now Pengkalan Chepa) parliamentary seat. He has won the by-election at Kelantan Hilir or Pengkalan Chepa parliamentary seat from the year 1967 and every time there was another election, he won the seat until 1986 when he was transferred to another parliamentary seat in Bachok, Kelantan. Tuan Guru Nik Abdul Aziz hasended his single life at the age 31 when he agreed to married a girl of his parents choices in November 1962. His wife is Tuan Sabariah binti Tuan Ishak was only 14 years old. They have been given ten childrens of 5 sons and 5 daughters.The first step in reforming, Tuan Guru Nik Abdul Aziz was to do simple things like introducing “manners of islam’. Example, opening and closing an event with starting an event with surah al-Fatihah and end it with a surah al-Asr. while the seats of women and men are separated and formal feasts are arranged after prayer time. (Leader). The “Membangun Bersama Islam” tagline was representative of Tuan Guru Nik Aziz’s soft approach towards Islam and governance that attempted to marry the dominant idea of “development” withIslam and not rejecting it, which was common to many other more radical elements in the party. Tuan Guru Nik Abdul Aziz also reminded that the charitygiven to the poor not just in materials only, but it should also include spiritual helps, which is the advice that should be provided to the people for life support hereafter. (Human skill). To prevent corruption symptoms, Tuan Guru Nik Abdul Aziz abolished the gift givingof government officials and warned against firing anyone who was involved in corruption. (monitor). In an effort to create an Islamic environment and to enable people to worship quietly and comfortably, Tuan Guru has declared Friday and Saturday as weekly holidays. (decision making). Tuan Guru Nik Abdul Aziz is a leader who always respects any decision made through the agreement. Whether the decision is personal or not, once it is made, he will hold it and defend it. (technical skill)The contribution of Tuan Guru Nik Abdul Aziz in the field of religion and preaching is not possible to denied again. However, his contribution in the catalyst for Kelantan state development parallel with Islamic policy is something new. He is begin the development on his own knowledge (religion) and spiritual aspects before material (economic) aspects. His knowledge on economics includes the definition of economics, the concept of development, the concept and elimination of poverty conform with what Islamic economics are studying. This symbolizes of Tuan Guru Nik Abdul Aziz knowledge although not formally studied but learned through experience and his extensive
