A simple scientific, non-graphing calculator with only arithmetic and transcendental function (sine, cosine, log,etc.) capability is required for quizzes and examinations. They are responsible for learning the material presented whether they attend or not.Recitation:Students must be registered for Recitation as well as for Lecture. The recitation period involves discussion of lecture material and homework assignments. Four quizzes covering recent lecture material and problem assignments will be given in recitation during the semester (see schedule, p 6). Homework will be due on-line through Mastering Chemistry. Mastering Chemistry can be found at https://UBLearns.buffalo.edu on theCHE101 home page by clicking on the “Assignment” tab on the left column. The first time you enter Mastering Chemistry you must register with your access code, which can be purchased through the Bookstore (it comes packaged with the textbook if you purchase the text) or on-line when you first enter Mastering Chemistry through UBLearns or at https://www.pearsonmylabandmastering.com/northamerica/ . For you to receive a grade for your homework, you must enter through the UBLearns website.Questions about Mastering Chemistry registration can be directed to the help chat on the website, or the help number 1-844-294-7015. Students should keep all examinations and quizzes until they have received their course grade. These are the only materials which willbe accepted as evidence of clerical error in the determination of the course grade.Examinations:Page 2 of 6Examinations have been scheduled for Friday, September 27th from 5:00 PM to 6:20 PM and Friday, November 1st from 6:00 PM to 7:20 PM, in rooms to be announced. Please clear your calendar for these times! Students should bring their University ID card to all examinations for identification. Copies of previous examinations will be made available on the course web site. The Final Exam has been scheduled forSaturday, December 14th at 8:00AM, in rooms to be announced. PLAN AHEAD! Make-up Policy:Students who are unavoidably absent from an exam or quiz must submit an Excused Absence request (obtain form in NSC 361 or online) and should be prepared to document the absence if requested to do so. Quizzes missed because of a valid absence will be prorated on the basis of other work that is done. Make-up Hour Exams will be given at 5:00PM on Monday, September 30th for Exam 1 in NSC 218 and at 5:00PM on Monday, November 4th for Exam 2 in NSC 218.
