Hartej GillScience of Happiness6/19/18Eat, Sleep, Mood journalI found that I do often eat within two hours my sleeping. I do not exercise, but frequently play video games or watch some tv before bed. These may relate to my sleep pattern because I seem to sleep at erratic times of day, only once I am completely exhausted. Since my meals are not regulated to a schedule, my sleep is not either. My meals tend to be whenever my hunger becomes unbearable, which can be any time and at any frequency. I have even gone a whole day without eating, just because I was not hungry enough to get food. Whenever I did eat, I would either be watching tv or sitting with my girlfriend at a restaurant. My mood before eating and basically all day is neutral, however when hunger gets bad enough that I need food, my mood worsens. Then immediately after eating the food, my mood improves a lot, and I normally fall asleep. I will always be sitting down while eating, and the calories are normally pretty high, and low in nutritional value. My sleep and food habits are horrible for a healthy lifestyle. The sporadic nature of my meal schedule probably creates an imbalance in my circadian rhythm, which messes with my sleep cycle as well. If I could, I would sleep each day at 12 pm and wake up at 6 am. I would also eat 3 meals at the prototypical times, to create a sense of normalcy in my life. This will probably not happen because any effort to force sleep (melatonin, etc.) has only worked for a single day. Not playing video games or watching tv before sleep is near impossible because I simply have nothing else interesting to do. When I am well rested, I am way more attentive and conversational. When I am sleep deprived, I am very quiet and unfocused on anything that I am doing. ReadingsI wonder if the pleasure we derive from eating in America comes from a lack of gratification in other spheres of life. Those who are obese may be so because of this lack of gratification in othersectors. To combat this, an obese person could find out new ways to gratify themselves, thus lessening their dependence on food. I wonder if there is a difference between the sleep patterns of people who have fixable vs. un-fixable stressors at work. What I would guess is that if there are solutions to work related problems that a person has, they will likely not suffer from insomnia. If there is no apparent solution to a person's work problems, I would think that those people are more likely to suffer from insomnia. I wonder how to combat the consequences that physical fatigue may impose on a person who is not accustomed to any physical activity in their day. For example, I do not engage in any physical activity, but when I suddenly did so, my ability to be as productive at work/school has diminished in the past. This discouraged me from engaging in that physical activity anymore. I understand that starting slow could be a solution, but it has not seemed
