Professor HeidnerConcert Report No.2I attended the Jazz Ensemble Concert, “Big Band,” on Monday 7 p.m., November 14, 2016 at the Garvin Theater, SBCC West Campus. I have never been there before, and the concert hall was really nice. This concert costs 15 dollars, but there was student discount so I paid 10 dollars. There were approximately 200 people in the concert hall. When I went to the concert, I sat in the back of the concert hall because most of seats were already full, but still I could hear the music clearly, and enough to watch their performance. When I arrived the concert hall, the instruments set already. At the beginning of the concert, the concertmaster was standing on the stage, and the concertmaster came out to tune the orchestra. The members of the group wore formal dress; colors were not all matched. There consisted of three programs: “Lunch Break,” “The Good Times,” and “Monday Madness” in regular sequence. The orchestra set on the stage were piano, guitar, bass, drums, trumpets, trombone, alto sax, tenor sax, and baritone sax. First one“Lunch break” directed by Jim Mooy was performed with 21 performers including a conductor. All of the performed song was rhythmical and exciting. There was some specific part on the each of parts such as solo performance, and the program fished with drums solo. Next one was “The Good Times” directed by Eric Heidner who is professor on my class. Second song, “El Abrazo,” started with piano; it was gentle beat, and changed to speedy; turned to rhythmical song. And it repeated changing slow to speedy, and speedy to slow. And finished with piano like as the first movement of the song. This program also finished with drums solo performance. Last program was “Monday Madness” directed by Isaac Jenkins; this was an ensemble for professionals and advanced students. It started with trombone mainly, and change to piano mainly and saxophone mainly. Personally, “El Abrazo” was the best for me. This sound made me become relaxing and exciting together because its tempochange slow to fest.It was second jazz concert for me. This experience was better than first time. I really enjoyed the concert and it was much worthier than the cost. This jazz concert experience gaveme an opportunity to feel the concert’s atmosphere. I preferred classic concert only, but I became to like to enjoy jazz concert though this
