Answers recorded on other pages of the test will not be counted. Put all responses on the answer sheet provided above. Part I. Identifying Types of Statements. Use the following list to match Questions 1—7. Each number from Question 1 through Question 7 refers to the sentence immediately following the number and ends at the next number. So, for example, Question 1 refers to “I know you share my outrage over the on-campus shooting that took place last night in front of the Piedmont North housing complex.” If a sentence includes more than one type of statement, record all of the types of statements in your response. Wrong answers will have one point deducted up to four points maximum for each question. (a) conjunction(b) disjunction(c) conditional(d) negation(e) simple statement(f) none of (a)—(e)March 22, 2016To the Georgia State University community,(1) I know you share my outrage over the on-campus shooting that took place last night in front of the Piedmont North housing complex. (2) While the suspects were taken into custody and charged shortly after the incident, these types of crimes are completely unacceptable and rightfully alarm our community. (3) I was particularly disheartened to learn that one of our own Georgia State students allegedly created the situation by selling drugs to visitors to campus. …… (4) We are immediately changing our processes for timely notifications or emergency alerts. . . . . (5) I am disappointed we did not promptly and effectively communicate what was happening last night as information became available. (6) We will provide more timely and frequent messages through a variety of channels to keep you informed. (7) I welcome your feedback and suggestions as we move forward. If the passage is standardized, focus on the standardization when choosing your response. 8. Which of the following best represents the Passage and Standardization for Q8 below?(a) Affirming the Antecedent (b) Denying the Antecedent(c) Affirming the Consequent (d) Denying the Consequent(e) Affirming a Disjunct (f) Denying a Disjunct(g) Tri-conditional (h) None of above Passage for Q8“Helicopter parent” is not a new term. By some accounts it first appeared in Haim Ginott’s 1969 book “Between Parent and Teenager.” But mounting academic research suggests that the rise of this parenting style is a more recent phenomenon. A number of circumstances over the last few decades might help perpetuate the hovering. Some researchers mark the kidnappings of the late ’70s and early ’80s as the end of the days when kids could roamfree. Children who once walked to school alone now don’t even wait at the bus stop alone. Some say it is not a good idea to be a helicopter parent, but it seems like the only alternative would be the so-called “free-range parents,” who let their kids walk to school or play in the park unsupervised. In the last couple of years, parents in South Carolina, Florida and Maryland were arrested or investigated for child neglect because their children were playing in parks without an adult. So obviously being a free range parent is dangerous for the parents. Obviously the only safe choice parents have nowadays is to be a helicopter parent. Modified from GSU Magazine, Spring 2016, available at http://magazine.gsu.edu/article/holding-pattern/Standardization of the Passage for Q8(1) Parents have to choose either helicopter style parenting or free range style. (2) Free range style parenting is not a good choice due to possible arrest for neglect.Therefore,(3) Parents must choose helicopter style parenting.9. Which of the following would be the best evaluation of the Standardization of the Passage for Q8?(a) The argument is valid and passes the proper form test(b) The argument is invalid and fails the proper form test(c) The argument is strong and passes the true premises test(d) The argument is weak and fails the true premises test(e) None of (a) – (d)410.
