You can now be used as part of the war and the union has decided they are people not slaves or property.- A total of 185,000 african American men fought in the union army- 35,000 from the north, 150,000 from the slaveholding states- in Missouri, 39% of age eligible African American men served in the union army- the confederacy put 800,000 of their white men into the CSA 150,000 of their black men served the union- political revolution- many of the men willing to serve as white officers were abolitionists. They believed in racial equality- Jefferson davis refuses to consider proposal- John Browns body: while the revolution was a failure, john brown was hung.
