Darwin read the works of Lyle and informed Darwin about uniformism and that the world was actually millions of years old. Uniformism- how things changed today is how they changed in the past. For the article, be familiar with both articles for MC. One of the two articles you should be able to draw the graphs and explain how the results were provided. Know how that relates to a main idea. Ex: why is genetic variation important with beach miceKnow over dominance, under dominance, and directional selection (which is a linear graph)Decent with modification is your alternative to some catastrophic thing. When crossing over occurs in meiosis, it is supposed to cross so there is an exchange with the homolog. Unequal crossovers can occur. When that happens, some chromosomes will lack a gene and die. Others will have 2 copies of a trait which can cause a difference in adult hemoglobin and child hemoglobin for example. There would be an advantage to having a mutation that can improve life.Fitness- know which is higher on a graph. For example, if the time or the slope for fixation is higher, the stronger the selection against the other ones and favoring the right one. Know which one shows the strongest selection. How fast you get there shows strength of selection.KNOW THE GRAPHS DRAWN ON PIECE OF NOTEBOOK PAPER IN EVOLUTIONARY BOOK.The three relative frequencies allow you to find little p. Know the formula.Don’t use square root on any problems that have to do with natural selection.Should be able to draw and explain graphs.Know natural selection in terms of graphs.Find an example of each type of dominance.Ex. Fruit flies for under dominance.Ex. Beach mice for over dominance.Ex. Typhus for over dominance.Ex. Darwin’s finches for directional selection.Little p is Big P + ½ HKnow the details of the paper, the experiment, the graphs, and the experiment the results were generated, and the concept that goes with the paper.15 MC, Essay, MathEvolutionary Review for Exam 1 09/22/2014Darwin read the works of Lyle and informed Darwin about uniformism and that the world was actually millions of years old.
