NMR Experiment A Spectroscopy I Pre-lab Assignment Place your responses to each of the following questions in the appropriate boxes on the Spectroscopy I Pre-lab Answer Sheet. The Pre-lab Answer Sheet is due when you arrive in lab to do the Spectroscopy I lab. You do not need to turn in this sheet with your answers. 1. Give the number of degrees of unsaturation (DOU) for each of the following compounds. a. C9H12O b. C6HCl5O c. d. NN e. NNNHNNH2 2. For each of the following compounds, give the number of signals (resonances) that you would expect to find in the 1H NMR spectrum. a. Br b. OH c. S d. HO 3. For each of the following compounds, give the multiplicity (s, d, t, etc.) and the number of protons (relative integrations) for each type of proton indicated. Be sure to give the integration value for the entire set of protons that are of the type indicated. Clab eOOcd4. Assign the given 1H NMR chemical shifts for each of the following compounds to the appropriate sets of protons, as indicated. ClClClab 4.0, 5.8 ppm Brcdef 1.0, 1.7, 1.8, 4.1 ppm OOghi 1.0, 2.3, 3.6 ppm 5. Many molecular fragments have easily identifiable coupling patterns by 1H NMR.
