555 Paul Hardin Drive Chapel Hill NC 27514 October 10 2014 Dr Doug Shackelford Dean Kenan Flagler Business School Dean s Suite CB 3490 Chapel Hill NC 27599 3490 Dear Dr Shackelford My name is name and I am applying for the Kenan Flagler Undergraduate Business program When I was six my dad started up his own nursery which sparked my interest in Business and led to me joining DECA Distributive Education Club of America in 9th grade Every competition trip business plan test and interview furthered my interest in Business Additionally I pursued taking business classes such as accounting financial planning financial operations statistics economics college level finance and marketing as well as doing internships to learn about how other businesses work I know that everything I experienced is just a taste of the business world and I wish to be part of the Business school in order to broaden my horizons and learn more Freedom of being in control of what I do is something that I love about businesses Helping out my father at these farmer s markets in Pinecrest taught me basics in marketing and I also created a business plan based on selling unique and high quality apparel for our school that would help raise funds for our club Not only would it benefit our club but it would also unite the school and raise school spirit which is what my school lacked Creating a 30 page business plan teaches you a lot however as there were always surprises I learned something a little unexpected The company we were working with was always late In the end we could not get the products due to lack of communication from them They lost an opportunity where 85 of the students are interested in buying products I learned to be careful with who you allow to be the producer of your products also how vital communication is We still ended up getting 3rd place in our category without earning Through internships and volunteering I gained more experience I realized how professionals skills such as multitasking analytical skills and resourcefulness are involved in any field one pursues The most influential experience I had has to be at the TV station in Taiwan I was put into such a different environment that I learned how important it is to adapt to new situations There was a little bit of a language barrier since I only knew basic Chinese however my knowledge on the language expanded Furthermore I learned how crucial teamwork is and how you have to be able to come up with solutions on the spot at times Learning more about the culture as to what is appropriate is also important to show respect I learn a lot outside of the classroom but I did already take some classes such as Business 101 and I plan on taking Economics 101 next semester I have credit for Statistics 155 and Calculus Involvement in organizations is also important for me and I have already researched different study abroad programs within the business school due to my strong interest in gaining further experience in global markets With a strong passion for business I don t think I ll only be a good fit but also be able to bring more to the table with my experiences I look forward to meeting you in an interview Thank you for your time Sincerely name Enclosure 1
