Summary of Books currently being studied Current LectureMake Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey- Follows Mr. and Mrs. Mallard as they tryto find a suitable place to raise ducklings. After they find a place to settle they meet Michael, a police officer who gives them peanuts. She eventually had eight ducklings, Jack, Kack, Lack, Mack, Nack, Ouack, Pack, Quack. Mr. Mallard swam up the river for aweek and Mrs. Mallard taught the ducklings everything they needed to know. Once the ducklings' skills were up to par Mrs. Mallard started the journey to go meet Mr. Mallard. Michael had to save the ducks from getting hit by a car on the highway. He set up a police escort allowing the ducks to cross the streets without being hit, and everyone in the town liked them. They ended up living at the park where they followed a swan boat and ate peanuts. The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter- Four rabbits, Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-tail, and Peter lived with their Mother, Mrs. Rabbit under a root of a fir-tree. They were allowed toplay, but they were to stay out of Mr. McGregor's garden because their father got caughtin the garden and Mrs. McGregor made a pie out of him. The mother went to the baker while Peter's siblings went to get blackberries. Peter went to the garden and started eating the produce. Peter ran into Mr. McGregor and couldn’t remember the way out of the garden when he tried to run away. He lost his shoes during this and ran on all fours. He may have gotten away, but his jacket got him caught on a gooseberry net. He started to cry but then some sparrows came and helped him escape from his jacket andavoid capture. Peter ran into the shed and hid in a watering can, while the man looked under the flower pots. Peter sneezed, sending McGregor after him again. Peter knockedover three plants as he jumped out of a window, finally escaping. He stopped to rest. Hewas lost and scared and began to look around. He found a door that was locked and he asked a mouse how to get to the gate but she had food in her mouth and couldn’t answer, which made Peter cry. The lady said she wanteda cat so the husband said he would get her one. He walked a long way until he found a hill covered in cats. He tried to pick the prettiest cat, but he ended up choosing them all because they were beautiful. The "hundreds of cats, thousands of cats, millions and billions and trillions of cats came to a pond and wanted a drink. They drank the entire pond. Then they ate all the grass off of a hill. When they finally got back home the woman was not too happy. They decided to let the cats decide which one the people would keep and all the cats said they were the prettiest. Then they started fighting hunger games style, which caused the old couple to run inside. The fighting stopped and there was one little kitten that was the victor. They asked how the kitten survived and it said that he was ugly so the other cats didn't bother him. They took care of it and it ended up being the prettiest cat in the world. Madeline's Rescue by Ludwig Bemelmans- Madeline was the smallest of twelve girls that lived in an old house in Paris. She wasn't scared of stuff. She scared Mrs. Clavel (boarding school teacher) when she slipped and fell into the river, but a dog saved her from drowning. Clavel said that she hoped Madeline would listen to her from now on and gave her some camomile tea. At bedtime the girls fought about where the dog would sleep. It was a smart dog that liked biscuits, milk, and beef. The named it Genevieve. Winter came and the stayed inside for a while, but on the first of May the board of trustees came to inspect the school. They found the dog and the president, Lord Cucuface told them to get rid of it. Clavel argued and he said that the girls can't love a mutt. He kicked the dog out and then they went to look for it. They gave up and then in the middle of the night the dog came back to the house. The girls fought over thedog and Clavel told them she would have to get rid of the dog again if they kept fighting.Then the dog had puppies and all the girls could have one. Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown- In a green room there is a bunch of stuff andthen they say goodnight to each thing including the air, stars, nobody, house, and noise. Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf- In Spain there was a bull named Ferdinand who didn't like being rough like the other bulls. His favourite spot was under a cork tree. His mom, a cow, thought he would be lonely by himself and asked him why he didn't like playing with the other bulls. As they grew up the other cows wanted to be bull fighters, but not Ferdinand. Five men came to pick the bull for the fights and Ferdinand went to his tree and got stung by a bee. He freaked out and ended up getting picked for the bull fights. He went by cart and it was quite an event. There was a parade into the ring. First were the Banderilleros who would poke him with sharp pins and make him mad. Thenthe Picadores who had long spears to poke him with. Then the Matador with a red cape and a sword to stick the bull with last. Then came the bull. The called him Ferdinand thefierce and everybody was afraid of him. He ran to the middle of the ring and sat down so he could smell all of the flowers in the ladies hair. They were all mad because he wouldn't fight so they took him home. And he is probably still sitting under his tree happily. Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel by Virginia Lee Burton- Mike Mulligan had a steamshovel named Mary Anne and he said it …
