Goal: To facilitate your success in acquiring - A basic knowledge of Hebrew grammar and - Essential skills in the use of Hebrew, - So that you can study and teach the Hebrew Bible with greater depth and accuracy and enjoy a richer life. Objectives: Upon successful completion of Hebrew 1 you will have: - Mastered the basic forms and uses of Hebrew nouns, verbs, and adjectives. - Mastered a basic vocabulary of 110 Hebrew words. - Mastered the basic linguistic principles needed to analyze the meaning of Hebrew words. - Learned to use the Hebrew components of Bible-study software. - Learned to use Hebrew reference works, both electronic and hard copy. - Grown in your enjoyment of the Hebrew language. - Grown in your commitment to use your Hebrew knowledge and skills in a life-long study of the Hebrew Bible. RESOURCES Logos Bible Software 4.0 - Since you are required to purchase Logos Bible Software 4.0 for this course, you may purchase it directly from Logos at a 50% discount rate. - When you purchase Logos Bible Software, you purchase a "library." You may purchase any of the top four libraries: Original Languages, Scholars, Scholars Silver, Scholars Gold, or Scholars Platinum. I only use resources that are found in all five libraries. - To purchase the software go to www.logos.com/Academic/rtsorl/Required.Page 3 Hebrew 1 Electronic Track - Upon submitting your purchase, Logos will send me your request, I will verify that you are a registered student, and then Logos will ship the software and bill you. [Note: you must register for the course on IQWeb before you can purchase the software, because I use the IQWeb course list for my verification.] Basic Hebrew Course Material - The Hebrew grammar and the Logos tutorial needed for class are available online. - You can download this material from http://www.box.net/shared/sauqaneycj for free. - You may need 7-Zip to unzip the file. 7-Zip is available for free at http://www.7-zip.org/download.html. Download the first version in the list. - Once unzipped, save this material to your hard drive. REQUIREMENTS Quizzes - There will be daily quizzes. The quizzes will cover the grammar in the current lesson and the cumulative vocabulary. - The quizzes are worth 10 points each or 100 total points and constitute about 31% of your grade. Workbook - Each lesson in the workbook has several tasks to be completed. - The tasks from each lesson are worth 10 points each or 100 total points and constitute about 31% of your grade. Posts - There will be daily posts to an online discussion forum. - The posts are worth 2 points each or 20 total points and constitute about 7% of your grade. Exams - There are two exams, a mid-term and a final. - The mid-term will cover Lessons 1g through Lessons 5g. - The final will focus on Lessons 6g through Lessons 10g, but will be comprehensive. - The exams are worth 50 points each or 100 total points and constitute about 31% of your grade.Page 4 Hebrew 1 Electronic Track GRADING - I use the Seminary's published grading scale. - At times a question may arise with regard to your grade for the course or for a particular assignment. You are advised to keep all work submitted for a grade. - Note: A "C" or better is needed in Hebrew 1 in order to move on to Hebrew 2. PROTOCOLS Please observe the following protocols to help this class go smoothly. E-mail Protocols - When sending miscellaneous e-mail to me or your TA, always put "Heb 1" (without the quotes) in the subject line. - Sign your e-mail messages.
