Students in a Gordon Rule class must earn a grade of C or better to receive course credit. ENC 1102 is worth 3 credit hours.During this second semester of Composition (ENC 1102), you will learn additional methods/tools to conduct college-level research. This will be focused primarily on library research and its literary tenets central to this class. You will learn to carefully read and evaluate your sources for bias and to examine your own. And I will be quite adamant about correctly documenting sources and will expect you to avoid plagiarism. In further developing your writing, analyzing, and research skills, you will be expected to develop a way of thinking, a way of interpreting texts and the world—in other words, I will not tell you what to think, but I will help you to construct your own ways to interpret texts. You will be asked to think about and attempt to understand the particular perspective that you bring to class, as well as alternate perspectives of your classmates and various texts’ authors. While conducting your own literary research and writing, you will be expected to consider many perspectives and include the voices of other scholars and how they vision a piece of literature.Through multiple readings and writing activities, research, film viewings and/or tv viewings, and essay assignments, we will come to know writing as a process that is never fixed, but rather a fluid act that invites a plethora of perspectives. Re-vision, as well as rethinking and rewriting are emphasized. To makethese connections, we will engage in active and thoughtful classroom discussions, lots of group activities/work, peer editing and responses, formal and informal writings, critical reading, and critical thinking. This class requires a heavy reading load and demands active engagement/participation during each class meeting. Please note: there are 100 points possible by the end of the semester.COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND GRADE DISTRIBUTION:  Essays/Assignment: (Total 70%) 70 Points Total (All work MUST adhere to MLA standards)Essay I: Inquiry and (Re?)Discovery—Textual Analysis (15%) 15 pointsAssignment II: Academic Proposal and Annotated Bibliography (10%) 10 pointsEssay III: Argue a Workable “Truth” (documented essay) (30%) 30 pointsAssignment IV: Creative Positioning: Group Reading Presentation(15%) 15 points (Final Exam)Each essay will undergo at least two drafts before a final grade is assigned to it.
