Q551 Final Papers Fall, 2006 BuseyThe Final Papers for Q551 take the form of a 8-10 page grant proposal in some area of Cognitive Neuroscience. The topic areas include (but are not limited to):LearningWorking memoryAttentionMental ImageryConsciousnessMental capacity (intelligence)ReadingLanguageBrain DisordersYou are to use the class materials as a jumping-off point into the relevant literature. Summarize the primary research articles that describe what has been learned so far about how the brain accomplishes some task, and then propose an experiment that will address unanswered questions. Previous class members have actually submitted these proposals in some form to NIH and NSF.Important: Most grant proposals don't get funded because the authorsfail to say exactly what they are going to do. They list lots of good ideas, but don't say how they are going to test the ideas. I'll assume that you are a competent experimenter and can do good basic science. However, you have to give me enough detail so that I understand exactly what the experiment is, what the data will look like, and how you will analyze the data.I strongly suggest that you either propose an experiment that uses theCognitive Neuroscience technique (ERP, PET, fMRI, single-cell recordings etc.) or if you describe behavioral studies you must use therelevant cognitive neuroscience literature to link your tasks with some brain area or function.
