Hwk 5 due Tue 9 15 09 1 Textbook 1 108 1 110 1 111 For each density curve identify which point marks the mean the median and also the mode 1 114 2 Excel Work Only turn in the template Read the Excel Manual pages 30 32 the part regarding numerical measures Make sure Analysis ToolPak is activated in your Excel Add Ins following the instruction that I emailed you Wednesday 9 9 evening You should be comfortable with both methods of accessing Excel s built in functions i Typing the function directly into the cell or ii Selecting the function from the Insert Function menu Now open a new worksheet and input the data set from Textbook Table 1 9 page 29 found in file ta01 009 at the Blackboard site Put the GPA data in column A with the label GPA in cell A1 delete all the other columns of data Sort the GPA data in ascending order so that you can easily determine what the median is type the value of the median into cell E5 Use the built in Excel functions to calculate each of the following quantities and put the answers in the cells indicated Mean in cell D3 Median in cell D5 Standard Deviation in cell D7 Variance in cell D8 Minimum in cell D12 Maximum in cell D13 Sum in cell D14 Count in cell D15 If you are not sure about the name of the Excel function you need then look through the category All and experiment with some of the functions Now obtain the table of Summary Statistics from Excel s Descriptive Statistics tool the table should occupy cells B1 C15 Check for agreement between the calculations shown in columns C D and E Template to Hand In Print your Excel spreadsheet only one page it should show the data in column A it is OK if the whole data set does not fit on one page do not print a second page and the other output as described above Be sure to show 3 decimal places of accuracy in all of the data and calculations As usual be sure to adjust all widths so that every entry titles names numbers etc is completely visible In your page setup for printing be sure to use portrait orientation and include row and column headings as well as gridlines on the spreadsheet
