CSIS-116: Lab 3 HandoutEach Project Group should submit one handout at the end of lab. You should download and save this document in a safe place, then edit it, and upload it to your Blackboard Group. How to Build an E-commerce Website Part 3IntroductionRecall, the basic pieces needed to develop an e-commerce business:Human Resources – Slowly, you are gaining technical expertise to be successfulOrganizational Capabilities – Using blackboard, digital documents, and coming to lab should helpHardware – Aside from a PC to do web development, we are outsourcing everything else, i.e., we don’t need a web server.Software – Aside from FTP and web development software, we can outsource everything else, i.e., webserver software and other e-commerce software.Telecommunications – We need a fairly reliable connection to the Internet to reach our out-sourced servers; also we need to make sure our hosting provider has a good Internet connection.Site Design –We still have not tackled this piece. We need to find resources and develop expertise.Questions: List three things that we still need to study/research before we can really begin:1.2.3.Recall, three essential technological components from last lab:1. Web Hosting Service2. Domain Name Registration3. Web Development SoftwarePart 1: Hosting ServiceBased on the research from last lab, each group should suggest at least 2 hosting providers. Write you choices here and share them with the class.#1#2In this lab, we will use the information we gathered from last lab to select the best hosting providers. Here we need to develop a consensus/understanding of what criteria is most important. Use the space provided to jot down some notes.Criteria - Number of domains that can be hosted: Why is this so important considering our situation (i.e., we are developing 3 different websites/businesses):Criteria – Cost: Aside from that fact that I only have a $100 budget in this course, there is some risk here. We could fail. Given our situation (i.e,. this is a class, in fact, an elective), how much would you be willing to invest?Criteria – Real Internet Bandwidth: We don’t want our site to be slow. How can we really evaluate this if the company won’t tell us how their servers are organized and connected to the Internet?Criteria – Features & Extras: Some groups may need help designing and implementing the actual website. Some hosting services provide software to help. Some groups may need to set upa web database or a message board. Some services provide these at no extra cost. Finally, other groups might be interested in generating Ad revenue. Some services provide ad placement services.Next, we will actually secure service for the remainder of the semester. This may take 15-20 minutes. Part 2: Domain RegistrationThe service we selected may come with a domain for free . Obviously, we need to register other domains (at least two more). Using last lab as a starting point, try to find the cheapest and “best”place to register two or more domains. Is there any cost savings if we register many domains 3, 4, 5, etc?Write down your #1 choice for registering two additional domains. If different, write down your #1 choice for registering three or more additional domains.Next, we will actually register domains for each group. This may take 15-20 minutes. Then, we will try to “bind” these domains to our hosting service. This may or may not happentoday.Part 3: Web Development Software- Luckily, we have pretty good web development software available in lab: DreamWeaver.o BTW, the software is also available in the Open Lab (RB 350) in the two computer pods closest to the windows.- Also, there are an abundance of free resources on the Internet for learning how to design and develop website using DreamWeaver.o BTW, in the next three labs, we will do several online tutorials to help us learn how to use Dreamweaver.- Finally, there are an abundance of web-based companies that sell web designs and severalorganizations that share web designs for free.Rather than learn about DreamWeaver and all the related concepts in this lab, we will simply get a website up and running so that our future work is more productive, i.e., we can work on the actual live website. For the remainder of lab, we will complete the following tasks.1. We will find an attractive web design that we can download for free. Write down notes on how I found these designs and how I downloaded them.2. We will open the design in DreamWeaver and look at the different parts, and learn howto edit the content. Here you should be taking a lot of notes.3. We will try to connect to the hosting provider and upload our “edited” design to the Internet. Again, jot down some step by step instructions so you can duplicate this process on your own.4. If the “binding” was successful, you should be able to type your domain into any web browser in the world and view the design you just uploaded. If it works, great! If it doesn’t work, we might just have to wait for a service provider to respond. At the end of lab, you should submit this document with your answers, comments, and notes directly typed in the space provided. Remember: don’t print it, just upload it to
