BUSA 310 Lecture 1 Outline of Current Lecture II Chapter 1 Introduction a Branches b Forms of Laws c Law Classifications III Chapter 2 Ethics and Responsibility Current Lecture Chapter 1 Laws are what shape the United States The different branches of government I II III Legislative creates new laws Executive enforces laws Judicial interprets laws There are different types and levels of courts that laws are enforced in For example Supreme Court which is very hard to get into and only holds the cases they find fit Depending on the intensity of the law broken some cases will be put into different courts Example Lowest form of laws University Policies City Ordinances County Laws State Laws Highest form of laws Federal Laws For lower types of courts like municipal courts you can go and file for a lawsuit yourself Classifications of Law Civil vs Criminal I II Civil Laws these are laws that must be enforced by civilians in order to be taken up in the court An example would be if you were in a car accident In the court In West Virginia there must be 6 jurors and their vote on guilty or not guilty must be unanimous Criminal Laws these are laws that are enforced by police prosecutors in the county or states and can carry jail sentence and or fines The person company must be These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor s lecture GradeBuddy is best used as a supplement to your own notes not as a substitute proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt 100 sure 12 jurors must be present and they all must say guilty Chapter 2 Ethics and Social Responsibility Ethics are how people should behave Behaving ethically is to be honest and do what s right In the court of law performing ethically is always what you chose when faced with a decision between not being ethical or being ethical Ethical cases are when you have the choice to do what s right vs what s wrong Being unethical can back fire considering it s not being honest I II Utilitarian Ethics a type of ethics that deals with mathematics concentrates on results Deontological Ethics a type of ethics that concentrates on the reason behind the decision As a part of society we are socially responsible for making decisions based on ethics and being honest and trying to do what s right
