Syllabus: Evolution and BehaviorName: Roger Mellgren Office Number: 508 LSOffice Telephone Number: 2 2775Email Address: [email protected] Hours: 1:30 –3:00 MTCourse Number, Section Number, and Course Title: Psyc. 6300, Evolution and Behavior Time and Place of Class Meetings: 3-5pm 420 LSDescription of Course Content: Topics in evolution of both human and non-human species will be considered. Costs and benefits of group living, and the evolution of uniquely human adaptations will be presented.Student Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to identify proximate and ultimate causes of behavior. Students will be able to identify the evolutionary causes of human intelligence. Requirements: Students will be required to make presentations of research based on research articles provided by the instructor and additional articles that the student finds in the published literature.Required Textbooks and Other Course Materials: A list of articles for required reading is provided separately. Descriptions of major assignments and examinations with due dates: Students will be required to present an article on a topic provided by the instructor and 3 additional articles relevant to the required one. A written summary of the required and 3 additional articles will be provided by the student for other class members to have as a permanent record. In addition, each student will be required to bring two articles to class and present them to the class, with the student choosing the topic of interest.Grading Policy: Grades will be based on the quality of the articles and their presentation by the student.Attendance Policy: Regular attendance is expected.Drop Policy: The university drop policy will be in effect.Americans With Disabilities Act: [insert ADA statement.
