Emphasis is placed on the human body systems including the integumentary skeletal muscular nervous endocrine reproductive cardiovascular lymphatic respiratory excretory and digestive systems This course is designed for students preparing for allied health occupations such as radiological technician physical therapist assistant and medical laboratory technician as well as students interested in learning about the human body This course also fulfills the natural sciences requirement for the associates degree Students with Disabilities If you are a student with a disability and believe you will need accommodations for this class it is your responsibility to contact Student Disability Services at 619 594 6473 To avoid any delay in the receipt of your accommodations you should contact Student Disability Services as soon as possible Please note that accommodations are not retroactive and that accommodations based upon disability cannot be provided until you have presented your instructor with an accommodation letter from Student Disability Services Classroom Decorum Disruption of class by cell phones will not be tolerated Students will also not be involved in texting or gaming Repeat offenders will be asked to leave class Students are also expected to attend daily arrive ontime and to stay for the duration of class Student Learning Objectives 1 Recognize and use terminology specific facts and general principles associated with the structure and function s of the eleven human body systems 2 Analyze the root words used in naming human anatomical landmarks 3 Describe how body systems relate to the maintenance of homeostasis 4 Recognize and identify the structure of human cells and the functions associated with cellular organelles 5 Identify the various tissues of the human body and explain their various functions 6 Recognize and identify the structure and functions of the organs comprising the various body systems 7 Utilize appropriate laboratory equipment to record analyze and interpret physiological data relating to the various body systems 8 Apply appropriate techniques to expose anatomical structures during laboratory dissection Evaluation Six exams of equal weight will be administered Exams will contain material from both lecture and lab A variety of testing methods will be employed including but not limited to true false multiple choice essay short answer microscope identification model chart identification and preserved specimen identification Exams are not comprehensive by design but may occasionally contain previously covered material when appropriate Students will need to purchase a Scantron answer sheet for each exam The lowest exam grade for each student will be dropped Due to the fact that make up exams are virtually impossible due to the lengthy set up time required and limited availability of lab materials a missed exam will be considered the lowest grade Other make up exams will be given in only extreme cases and with significant prior notification Students are required to take exams in the course sections they are enrolled unless previous arrangements have been made with the instructor The nature of the course material engenders rigorous intense exams Students are encouraged to approach this class with diligence Grades will be assigned according to the following scale 90 A 80 89 B 70 79 C 60 69 D 60 F Students with learning or physical disabilities that require reasonable accomodations for exams lectures and laboratory activities should contact the instructor as soon as possible so that arrangements for reasonable accomodations can be planned Such discussions are confidential Attendance The students most likely to fail are those who often miss class Regular attendance is one component of success You may be dropped if you have more than three unexcused absences However it is ultimately your responsibility to officially drop this class if that is your intent Failure to do so may result in an F grade It is your responsibility to consult the Office of Admissions for the drop withdrawal and credit no credit deadlines Student Rights and Responsibilities All students shall have the right to a safe campus learning environment free from interference and disruption Student behavior must remain in accordance with specific academic and behavior requirements Honesty and integrity are integral components of the academic process Students are expected to be honest and ethical at all times You are encouraged to read San Diego Community College District Policy 3100 which outlines stuent rights and responsibilties This policy can be obtained by clicking here Activities violating this policy include such activities such as cheating plagiarism disruptions of
