Tuesday & Thursday 10-11 am [email protected] Text: The Psychology of Women, 5th Edition by Matlin, M.W.Purpose & Goals: This course is an examination of the thoughts, emotions, and behaviors of women as they pertain to a variety of areas including gender comparisons, work experiences, stereotypes, and sexuality. The course is designed to interest and meet the needs of both majors and non-majors and to familiarize you with facts, concepts, and terminology commonly used in relationship to women’s issues and women’s studies. Office Hours, Appointments & Help: The hours listed are ones that you can count on us being available. If you need to see one of us at another time please e-mail and schedule an appointment beforehand in order to avoid missing me. We will do our best to accommodate your schedules.Attendance: Not mandatory. However, regular class attendance is expected in this course. Attendance will be taken sporadically throughout the course and if you are present those days wetake attendance than you will receive 2 additional points on your final letter grade. Students will be accountable for all lecture material, and each examination will contain questions from the class readings and classroom lectures, therefore it will be imperative that you not miss class.Exams and Grading Policy:Four exams will be given throughout the semester. Each exam will be worth 100 points. The exams will be structured with a combination of multiple choice and short answer questions. Exam questions will be taken from class lectures and assigned readings. Make-up exams will only be administered if the student provides a University approved excuse.There is a total of 400 points to be earned during this course:A = 400-360 points 100%-90% B = 359-320 points 89%-80% C = 319-280 points 79%-70%D = 279-240 points 69%-60%F = 239-200 points 59% and below1Drop for non-payment of tuition: If you are dropped from this class for non-payment of tuition, you may secure an Enrollment Loan through the Bursar’s Office. You may not continue to attend class until your Enrollment Loan has been applied to outstanding tuition fees.Academic Resources: Resources are available for students who need extra help with study skills, time management, or note taking. The UTA Counseling Services (272-3671) and SOAR (272-3684) not only offer seminars to improve note taking and study skills but also to develop time management skills. Academic Dishonesty: It is the philosophy of The University of Texas at Arlington that academic dishonesty is a completely unacceptable mode of conduct and will not be tolerated in any form. Any form of academic dishonesty will be reported.“Scholastic dishonesty includes but is not limited to cheating, plagiarism, collusion, the submission for credit of any work or material that are attributable in whole or in part to another person, taking an examination for another person, any act designed to give unfair advantage to a student or the attempt to commit such acts.” (Regents Rules and Regulations, Part One, Chapter VI, Section 3, Subsection 3.2, Subdivision 3.22) All persons involved in academic dishonesty will be disciplined in accordance with University regulations and procedures. Every effort will be made to avoid cancellation of presentations/tests caused by the bomb threat. Unannounced alternate sites will be available for these classes.
