Website: http://www.wwnorton.com/college/geo/earth3/ Laboratory: Laboratory sessions are mandatory and will account for 25% of your final grade in class. Lab sessions meet this week – see your schedule for room numbers. Examination and Grading: Grades will be determined based on the following schedule. EVERY student has the opportunity to receive an A in this class. Exams may contain multiple choice, true/false and matching exercises. The instructor may curve the exam grades. Quizzes: There will be unscheduled (pop) quizzes. Quizzes will be given on recent lecture material and on assigned reading. Pop quizzes will be given when there is a lack of attention or an outbreak of early class departures. A = 90 to 100% Exams (3) 45% B = 80 to <90% Cumulative Final 25% C = 70 to <80% Pop quizzes 5% D = 60 to <70% Laboratory 25% F = 0 to <60% Tentative Exam Schedule: Exam I: Thursday 24 September Exam II: Tuesday 20 October Exam III: Thursday 12 November Final Exam: Wednesday 16 December You must bring a gray SCANTRON sheet and #2 pencil to each exam.Wade, GEOL 101, Fall 2009 Courtesy: Please be respectful of your fellow classmates and TURN OFF all mobile communication devices such as cell phones, pagers, or hand-held e-mail devices before entering the classroom. If you or your electronic device becomes disruptive you will be asked to leave. Follow-up courses: If you like Principles of Geology, consider taking Historical Geology (GEOL 106) and Dinosaur World (GEOL 307) Absence Policy: This class will follow the University’s policy for excused absences. For more information, please see Section 7 of the student rules: http://student-rules.tamu.edu Make-up Policy; Make-ups of exams or labs are allowed for University-approved excused absences, as covered in the Texas A&M University Student rules (http://student-rules.tamu.edu). A make-up exam will be given if you have a university-approved, documented excuse for missing the exam. Otherwise, you will accept a grade of 0 (zero). It is your responsibility to contact me (via e-mail or telephone) before the exam or as soon as possible after the exam to arrange a make up. Any make-up exams will be given during office hours the week after the scheduled exam and may be essay format. There are no make-ups for quizzes, but quizzes may be excused with an acceptable university excuse.
