iLrn Hints for Lesson 17, 18, and 19 You can always view correct answers on iLrn after you end an assignment by clicking on “view details” to any problem. This will help you judge if your math is incorrect. If you get back into the assignment, you should have a different version of that problem. You can always submit inputting questions to the discussion board linked from: www.math.purdue.edu/MA 153 Be specific with your question. Kristin is live on the board Tue/Thurs/Sun nights from 8-10pm and will answer also at other times ASAP. Students complain that iLrn will not accept their answer, but it is almost always the math that is wrong so iLrn is working correctly. Remember that we drop 3 online assignments at the end of the semester. Lesson 17: #1 Math hint: This question involves half circles which should be discussed during class. If the equation is solved for x, it is either the right or left half. IF the equation is solved for y, it is either the upper or lower half. Your instructor will talk about these ideas during class. Lesson 18: #1 and #2 ask for the general form of the equation of the line. You must enter as ax+by=c where a,b, and c are all integers (no fractions) and a is positive. For example, if your line is (5213 −−=+ xy) then general form would be 12−=+ yx (the fractions are gone and the first x term is positive). #3 and #4 ask for the slope-intercept form, y=mx+b. Read directions for each problem. Include the y= with your answer. #4 (and possibly others): This should not be a problem anymore but just in case…If the slope is negative, iLrn wants entered as 32−instead of 32−(put the negative sign with the numerator). Again, this should be fixed and not a necessary hint. Lesson 19: #1: Enter the general form (see comments above under lesson 18). #2: Math hint: There is no computing for you to do. You are shown the slope and y-intercept for each graph. Except for the vertical line, enter each answer in slope-intercpet form, y=mx+b (include y= with each answer). OVERLesson 19 (con’t): #4: Do not include the word “months” in the answer box. Only submit the numeric answer. #5 is a word problem (like #60 in the text). My answer was: 9.11992.1+=tT but iLrn wants it inputted as 9.1199012+= tT. This problem should be fixed by the time you get to it. You should be able to enter either version (with correct
