Online Course EvaluationECON 121 01 - Spring 2010View By Question - Dirk BergemannPrint PageQuestion 3 Was the relationship between the section (if any) and the course effective, and how could itbe improved? What are the strengths and weaknesses of your teaching assistant (discussionsection leader, lab section leader, grader or other assistant) as an instructor, and how mighthis/her teaching be improved?Response 1Muneeza Mehmood AlamReally taught us how to do the problem sets. I wish she were more willing to answer emailsinstead of just replying with "ask me in section".Response 2Muneeza Mehmood AlamBest TA !Response 3Taeyoung Aquinas KimTaeyoung was very helpful, particularly when I went to office hours. Great TA.Response 4Muneeza Mehmood Alamshe is very helpful in sectionResponse 5Muneeza Mehmood AlamFine -- a bit scatter brained and hard to follow, but she has the answers.Response 6Muneeza Mehmood AlamMuneeza was a fantastic TA; section was highly instrumental in my understanding of thematerial and the problem sets, and she was extremely accommodating in arranging meetingswith students. Her office hours were also very helpful, andshe worked hard to make sure herstudents grasped the information. On a different note, I interacted with Olga several timesthroughout the semester, and in my experience, she was an absolutely horrible TA. I came toher with questions about problem sets she had graded, and she often dismissed my concernswith scoffs or transparent unconcern. She also taught my section one week. That week only, Ileft section exponentially MORE confused about the subject matter than I had been prior tosection. She made very little effort to understand students' questions or address them, andwas coldly condescending throughout. I do not think her attitude was simply derived from alack of familiarity with the students in our section; Vincent also taught our section once andcovered the material admirably while maintaining strong rapport with the students.7/23/2010 View By Question…yale.edu/…/ViewAnswersByQuestion_… 1/10Response 7Robert Vincent PohlAmazing TA. Explains things very clearly and is always willing to help if you have questions. Heshould teach the class.Response 8Robert Vincent PohlVincent was definitely a great teaching fellow, always on top of his game on teaching thesections. Sometimes a little shake-y on responding to individual questions, but generally asolid section leader and very open and friendly.Response 9Robert Vincent PohlBest TA ever, very clear, helpful, and generous with timeResponse 10Taeyoung Aquinas KimTae seems experienced and knowledgeable. The subject of section was not super connectedto lectures/super helpful. I guess I felt a little cheated because some of the other TA's wouldbasically do the problems on the pset for their students...Tae never really did that. Esp b/c mysection was wednesday afternoon, people hadn't looked at the pset and section was notuseful for that. So Tae was a really good TA, but the one thing is that it was slightly unfair forothers to get so much help on the pset...Response 11Robert Vincent PohlSection wasn't mandatory which I liked, but it was always there as an option if the materialwas particularly difficult or you had additional questions regarding the problem sets orlectures. I liked my TA and thought he did a fairly good job at reviewing what the studentswanted.Response 12Muneeza Mehmood AlamGreat section leader, I learned a lot. She was very helpful for answering questions as well assupplementing the material taught in class. This was probably the most worthwhile sectionI've had at yale.Response 13Olga A. TimoshenkoDiscussion was effective and somewhat useful. The style of teaching made concepts seemmuch harder than they are supposed to be. Would have been more useful if all class materialwas reviewed and advice on how to solve all problem set questions was given.Response 14Robert Vincent Pohl7/23/2010 View By Question…yale.edu/…/ViewAnswersByQuestion_… 2/10He did a great job summerizing the essentials out of lectures, and I found this sections to bevery useful when dealing with homework problems.Response 15Olga A. TimoshenkoOlga tends to give straightforward but theoretical answers to questions. If you can keep upwith the mathematics, you'll definitely find her section useful.Response 16Olga A. TimoshenkoI didn't go to section after the second week. Olga wasn't engaging and did not help me tounderstand the material better. Section was not helpful.Response 17Muneeza Mehmood AlamI thought Muneeza did a great job as a TA. She explained the concepts clearly, and made sureto catch us up on the material for P-sets that wasn't covered in the course.Response 18Taeyoung Aquinas KimKnowledgeable and helpful. Great TAResponse 19Muneeza Mehmood AlamGreat TA!Response 20Muneeza Mehmood AlamThe section was the help with problem sets and going over problems from class. Muneeza wasgreat and very helpful and clear.Response 21Muneeza Mehmood AlamSections were extremely helpful to clarify and reinforce material. Muneeza was alwaysavailable for extra help and was great in answering questions on the problem set. An area ofimprovement would be to follow through answering questions. She would often stop goingover a question, when she thought everyone understood the problem or if we had done itbefore. But overall, great T.A.Response 22Muneeza Mehmood AlamMuneeza is an awesome teacher.7/23/2010 View By Question…yale.edu/…/ViewAnswersByQuestion_… 3/10Response 23Robert Vincent PohlVincent has been very helpful throughout this semester -- his review sections are always verydirectly relevant to the materials that we cover in class and in the problem sets, and he oftenis able to anticipate the difficulties that we face.Response 24Muneeza Mehmood AlamSection for intermediate microeconomics teaches new material. Often, this material helps toclarify problem sets, which would be extremely difficult without attending section. MuneezaAlam knew the material well for each section.Response 25Taeyoung Aquinas KimInformative, friendly and helpful. However sometimes in section we would go over materialwhich didn't need to seem to be covered. Regardless of what we did cover it was taught well.Response 26Robert Vincent PohlVincent was awesome. He was always ready to explain concepts, was punctual for section andalways made sure that we understood the material. His explanations were fantastic andspeed at which he explained things was
