Dr. Kestner Fall 2005EDF 4450: PHILOSOPHY AND HISTORY OF EDUCATIONGuidelines for Final PaperThe culminating experience for EDF 4450 is writing a paper called “My Philosophy ofEducation” and also serves as a final exam for the course. It is due by 4:00 p.m. onMonday, December 12, 2005. No late papers will be accepted. This paper is worth30% of the final grade for the course.Your paper begins with a reflection and analysis of the philosophies and theoriespresented in the course, then applies those concepts to your own life as a professionaleducator as a personal philosophy of education. The body of the paper should be 2500-3000 words in length (approximately 8-10 double-spaced pages using a 12-point font andone-inch margins on all sides). A title page should appear before the body of the paper,and a bibliography should be included at the end (these pages are in addition to the bodylength requirement of the paper). Use the current version of APA style for all citationsand the bibliography.Although you have some freedom to organize the paper as you see fit, you should followthese general guidelines:Write the paper in two parts:Part OneUse this part to review, analyze and otherwise reflect upon major philosophical andtheoretical foundations of education. Address the following key issues in this part of thepaper:• Metaphysical issues (human nature and the nature of reality)• Epistemological issues (the sources, nature and limits of human knowledge)• Axiological issues (values: ethics and aesthetics)In addition part one of the paper should express your ideal of what comprises an educatedindividual, including qualities and knowledge possessed. This part of the paper shouldculminate in a discussion of the philosophy or philosophies that best support(s) your viewof what comprises a quality education.Part TwoThis part of the paper should build upon the foundation that you developed in part one,addressing issues of how you intend to live and work as a professional educator. Addressthe following specific issues in part two:• What you will teach• How you will teach (methods and approaches)• Expectations you will holdFinally, part two should address how you intend to pursue life as an educatedprofessional, including activities and experiences that you believe will keep you on a pathtoward the life of an educated person that you believe an educator should pursue.Dr. Kestner Fall 20052GradingPapers will be graded as follows: Pts.
