Study of microprocessor operation, assembly language, arithmetic operations, and interfacing Course Objectives To develop the students' ability to understand the architectural philosophy and evolution of the microcomputers. To develop the students' ability to understand the hardware and software architecture of a microprocessor. To develop the students' ability to use basic assembly level programming techniques. To develop the students' ability to understand the design of hardware components of a microcomputer. To develop the students' ability tounderstand peripheral interfacing with the microprocessor. To develop the students' ability to create practical applications using microprocessor system. Class Attendance Students are expected to attend all class meetings. If a class is missed, the student is responsible for the material covered. Attendance will be taken. Occasional pop quizzes will be given which can boost your homework grade.Class Conduct Students are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner. If necessary, the student may be asked and expected to remove themselves from the classroom.Test Policy There will be NO makeup tests. If you miss one test, you may substitute your final exam grade for that test. Additional tests missed will be given a grade of 0. If you have taken all four tests, then you may substitute your final exam grade for one test grade.Grading Policy In Class Tests 50%Lab 25% Final 15%Homework/Pop Quizzes 10%WARNING: You must have at least 60% on the lab grade to pass the courseFinal Exam The final exam is comprehensive and mandatory.Academic Honesty Anyone who is caught cheating will receive a 0 on the given test orassignment. If a second offense should occur, the student will receive an F in the class. This includes both the provider of the information as well as the receiver of the information. Any studentwho violates the university’s academic honesty policy will be reported to the Dean of Students for academic discipline. A copy of the University’s policy on academic misconduct is available at http://www.msstate.edu/dept/students/amcsanct.htm.Add/Drop Policy Add/Drop without Penalty- A student has through the fifth class day into the semester to add a course and through the tenth class day to drop a course with out being assessed a fee or academic penalty.Drop after the tenth class day through the 30 th class day in the semester – A student who elects to drop a course during this periodmust receive the approval of his/her advisor, will be assigned a W on his/her academic record, and be assessed a fee. The advisor who permits the drop will specify its effective date.Drop after the 30 th class day into the semester – A student cannot drop courses after this period except in documented cases of serious illness, extreme hardship, or failure of the instructor to provide significant assessment of his/her performance. A request to drop a course during this period must be approved by the student’s advisor and academic dean. The dean who permits the drop will specify its effective date.
