A PERSONAL CHALLENGEIt is not uncommon to focus on “the resource side” of HRM and discuss the countless ways human beings can be a vital resource to organizations. We have done just that for most of our time together. Before we end, however, I want to encourage you to focus on “the human side” of not just HRM, but life in general, and reflect philosophically on the following questions, the answers of which may elude and engage us for the rest of our life. Ten Compelling Philosophical Questions1. What does it mean to be “human”? 2. What really matters in life?3. What do I really want to do with my life?4. What about personal change…should I be content or grow? (Who am I?)5. What about my relationships with others? 6. What does it mean for a society to be “civilized”? (Is this a “good” thing?)7. Can and should I make a difference in society? (How powerful am I really?)8. What kinds of challenges will I seek in life?9. What about injustice and suffering…how will I cope?10. How do we know anything…for sure?Lessons which may help....1. Think and dream often about the things that matter to you.2. Know yourself and take care of yourself.3. Our past doesn’t determine our future. 4. Authentic relationships deepen our life experience.5. Tell people you care about them.6. Take less and give more.7.
