Possible explanations:o Humans are genetically programmed to respond gentlyto infantile featureso We learn to associate infantile features with helplessness and then generalize this expectation to baby-faced adultsd. Facial expressions of the 6 major emotions- Anger- Fear- Disgust- Sadness- Happiness- Surpriseb. These emotions are universal across culturesc. However, recognition of facial emotions is better with greater familiarity with that person’s ethnicityIV. Other Non verbal cuesa. Body Movements- Excessive movement can indicate discomfort, anxiety and/or emotional arousal- Palms up- Friendly, inviting, begging- Palms down- Confidence, dominanceb. Fingers are nerve-linked to speech areas of the brain- Fingertips touching together in a steeple position- thoughtfulness- Fingers touching the lips- self-soothing due to discomfort or indecision- Lack of finger movement can be a sign of drug
