Emphasis will be placed on the following skills in the order given :Listening, speaking, reading and writing ( UC, CSU)Textbook : Vis-à-Vis : -Textbook and Workbook/lab manual 4th EditionSupplementary material : A French-English/English-French dictionaryAIMS AND OBJECTIVES :General Aims1. To become familiar with the syntactical structure of the French language.2. To recognize the sounds of the spoken language.3. To become aware of the nature of articulating sounds to communicate in French.4. To undestand the written word and interpret its meaning.5. To be exposed to various aspects of French culture.Obligation of the Student 1. Attend all class sessions ( a most important factor in foreign language study). Be promptin arriving to class, no early departures.2. Complete homework/writing assignments and workbook.3. Take chapter exams and final exam ( oral and written).4. Do one Oral Presentation on cultural topic.Course Content :1-pronunciation2-aural comprehension3-Reading and vocabulary study4-Major idiomatic expressions5-Important aspects of French culture6-Main elementary grammatical structuresEVALUATION : The instructor reserves the right to adjust the course to meet the needs of the class.20% Workbook/lab manual and writing assignments40% Chapter Exams ( students will drop lowest unit exam grade) No make-up tests will be given10% Oral Presentation20% Final exam ( 10% oral-10% written)10% Class ParticipationLast day to drop course without receiving a « W » is 02/06/09Last day to drop course with a « W » is 04/22/09Students are responsible for dropping the course, not the instructor !You will automatically be dropped after the 9th absence.SOCIAL SCIENCE DIVISION CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONSIt is expected that students in all Social Science Division classes will :*be attentive to, and participate in, all instructional activities.*be courteous to people with different perspective and values.*be respectful of all persons.*be on time.*not leave early without instructor permission.*not disrupt class sessions by inappriopriate behavior.*not cheat on assignments or examinations.*not engage in plagiarism.*not eat, drink, or smoke in
