Prerequisite Skills:Chabot College Fall 2005Removed Fall 2010Course Outline for Welding Technology 70INTRODUCTION TO WELDINGCatalog Description:70 - Introduction to Welding 2 units(May be repeated 3 times)Welding industry fundamentals including introduction to SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, oxyacetylene and braze welding, plasma and fuel gas cutting, general shop equipment usage, welding electricity fundamentals, shop safety, welding consumables identification, hazardous materials regulation, introduction to blueprint reading as applied in manufacturing industry. 1 hour lecture, 3 hours laboratory.[Typical contact hours: lecture 17.5, laboratory 52.5]Prerequisite Skills:NoneExpected Outcomes for Students:Upon completion of the course, the student should be able to:1. properly identify CC and CV welding power supllies and describe their applications;2. handle welding and shop equipment in a safe manner;3. identify common metals, metal alloys and their properties;4. demonstrate proper usage of welding power supply;5. correctly identify and use electrodes, flux-core wires and welding consumables;6. perform welds using welding symbols, blueprints and shop sketches;7. identify hazardous material and apply safety norms in shop environment;8. perform welds in flat and horizontal using SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, GMAW and OFW processes;9. perform oxyacetylene and plasma cuts;10. properly maintain shop and welding equipment.Course Content:1.
