Other times by appt.College of Education and Professional Studies THEME: That all students through the opportunities offered in EIU programs for professional preparation in teaching become educators who are creators of effective educational environments able to integrate diverse students, strategies, societies, and subjects.Course Description-EDU 2022: This course is designed to prepare teachers to integrate technology into the curriculum based on the national and state educational technology standards. This course will focus on the effective use of technology in teaching and learning.Prerequisite (s): Passing scores on the CEPS Level I technology proficiency.Textbooks:Cashman, T. J., Gunter, R. E., Gunter, G. A. & Shelly, G. B. (2006). Teachers Discovering Computers, Integrating Technology in the Classroom . Boston, MA, Thompson Learning.Fewell, P. J., & Gibbs, W. J. (2006) Microsoft Office for Teachers. Columbus, OH, Merrill Prentice Hall.Learning Model/Instructional Activities:The teaching model utilized for this course is the Information Process Model (Joyce and Weil, 1980). According to Joyce and Weil, this model includes organizing data sensing problems, generating concepts and solutions as well as inquiring training. The model is concerned with the social relationships and development of confident integrated learner.Course Purposes: Students majoring in P-12 education shall be offered opportunities to:1. Practice and expand personal use of various kinds of hardware and software.2. Use technology in the design of curriculum for constructivist teaching and learning.3. Apply learning theory to evaluate quality technology experiences, P-12.4. Make informed judgements about social and ethical issues involving technology.5. Develop strategies and commitment to keep abreast of developments in educational technology.Objectives of the Course:This course is designed to address issues in using technology for instruction in P-12 classrooms. At the completion of this course, the students will e able to:- Apply learning technologies that support instruction in their grade level and subject area.- Plan and implement instructional units that integrate a variety of software, applications, and learning tools.- Apply and model principles of effective grouping and assessment strategies for diverse populations.- Understand and apply concepts and skills for making decisions concerning the social, ethical, and human issues related to computing and technology.- Understand the changes that occur in informational technology.- Integrate advanced features of technology-based productivity tools to support instruction, extend communication outside the classroom, enhance classroom management, and perform administrative routines more effectively.- Use telecommunications and information-access resources to support instruction.- Use computers and other technologies in research, problem solving, and product development.- Plan and implement team and collaborative projects that require critical analysis and evaluation, and present products developed.- Develop information literacy skills to be able to access, evaluate, and use information to improve teaching and learning.- Engage in collaborative planning and teaching with other education colleagues and the larger school community. Attendance will be taken daily. If you arrive late it is your responsibility to notify the instructor at the end of class so that you won’t be counted absent.** You will be given one "free" day for which you won't lose any points. ** Beyond the "free" day you will lose 10 Points for each absence. If you are ill please do not come to class and possibly expose others to your illness. ** All assignments must be submitted on time in order to obtain the course grade.
