Prerequisite: Arts 1317. Arts 1311, Arts 1312 and Arts 1316 are recommended for Art Majors. This course covers the analytic and expressive drawing of the human figure. Course Description: This course continues Arts 2323. Emphasis is on individual expression. (2 Lec., 4 Lab.) Phone orders usually arrive in 5 to 7 working days UPS and you can pay more for 2 day service. This is a great option if you do not have transportation. REQUIRED MATERIALS (please note: you may need to replenish some supplies) Drawing paper 18” X 24” with 100 sheets of white paper (Biggie pad) Rough Newsprint pad (50 or 100 sheets) 18 x 24 or larger Other paper, see below Sketchbook * we will discuss 2 or more Bulldog Clips for attaching paper to drawing board 1 box all black compressed charcoal (charcoal pastel), all square sticks, (share with someone) 1 box vine or willow charcoal. (25 sticks) Medium and soft. (vine is dark grey, willow is blacker charcoal) You may need more of this.( Much less expensive from catalogs) Drawing pencils: HB, B, 2B, 4B, one Ebony pencil, an inexpensive sharpener. (Optional, more pencils from H lead to the higher B leads. If you prefer darker leads, get some 6 or 8B, if you like lighter leads, H and 2H. 1 charcoal pencil, soft 1 bottle black ink 1 bamboo brush, the larger the better, (optional, get a medium and a large). 1 bamboo pen, other pens optional (will show you in class) 1 chamois, (less expensive from Home Depot) 1 white eraser (Magic Rub) 2 or 3 kneaded erasers (large size) 1 pkg Conté Crayon (black, bistre, grey and white.) check catalogs for this, and look for “Studio Sketch Set”, much better price for 12 sticks. (could share with someone) Advanced students might want to invest in a set of colored conte crayons, available in the catalogs 1 can of workable Matte Fixative (hazardous, use outdoors only, avoid windy days) Color materials of your choice (paint, pastels, ink)—some color is required *We will discuss sheet papers in class. You will need more than is listed i.e. Midterm and Final Projects.2 sheets 90lb or better watercolor paper (22 x 30) 2 sheets charcoal paper, (white, gray and greenish) 1 sheet BFK, Stonehenge or similar in white or cream 1 sheet BFK, Stonehenge or similar in a light tone 1 sheet Vellum 1 tube each of inexpensive Liquitex Acrylic paint: Ultramarine Blue, Burnt Sienna, White and Black 2 acrylic painting brushes—one that is ½” and one that is ¼” (will discuss in class) 1 combination lock for locker (if you want a locker) 1 large, sturdy portfolio with handles or make one yourself. Wide range of price and type. 1 tote bag or supply bin for carrying your materials. Look at Home Depot or Target 3 plastic, wide-mouth containers. (we generally have these in the classroom) Disposable palette pad, (Strathmore) would be nice. You could share with a fellow student, or any other flat surface you can use as a palette. ***Always keep your receipts in case you need to return or exchange supplies.
