Mail Box: Located on second floor of Giannini (my last name is on top of my box). Course Website: http://are.berkeley.edu/courses/EEP162/spring06/ Course Information: Materials: Required: Course reader available at Ned’s Bookstore (Two volumes, volume 1 available now) Optional: Griffin, Ronald C. Water Resource Economics: The Analysis of Scarcity, Policies and Projects. Structure of section: Section will be based on lecture material and problem sets. Some new material will be presented when Professor Hanemann is not able to cover everything in class, but I will try to keep this to a minimum. Please feel free to send me an email about topics you would like me tocover. There will also be a number of computer labs scheduled during section throughout the semester. Grading: The grade for the class is based on six problem sets, a paper and a final exam. The paper makes up 50% of the final grade and the final exam makes up the additional 50%. Excellent problem sets can push your grade up if you are in between and of course serves as good practice for the final exam. There may also be a presentation on your paper topic that would be incorporated into the paper grade. Once we determine this, I will let you know. Grade dispute: Students who wish to dispute grades on assignments must do so in writing within one week of receiving the disputed grade. Indicate each issue that you dispute. You must submit grade disputes to me in office hours. Please note that I may lower as well as raise grades after reviewing assignments. Policy on late work: If you can not hand in a problem set or the paper on time I will allow a 24 hour extension as long as you give me at least 24 hour notice, otherwise it will not be accepted. If there is an emergency situation please talk to Professor Hanemann. Problem Sets: As mentioned in the grading section, problem sets do not contribute greatly toward your grade but they will help you a lot for the final. I will carefully grade all completed problem sets, and will also go over certain problems in section. You are free to work in groups. I will only correct problem sets that are turned in on time. Problem sets will be handed out two weeks before they are due. Attached is a tentative problem set schedule. Paper: The paper will be due in the last lecture of the semester (Monday May 8, 2006). You are welcome to hand me a 1-2 page paper proposal by April 5, 2006 for initial feedback. We will discuss the structure of the paper in more detail a little later in the semester and guidelines will be posted on the website. Final Exam: The final exam is scheduled for Monday May 15, 2006. There will also be a take home component that will be due during the exam period.Email: I am happy to answer questions by email. I will respond to questions to the entire class list in an anonymous manner. If you have questions on a problem set/final exam they must be emailed to me at least 24 hours before the due date. I am also happy to incorporate your ideas in section. Again, any suggestions for what you want me to cover in section should be emailed to me at least 24 hours in advance.Tentative Problem Set Schedule: Problem Set # Date Distributed Date Due 1 1 February 15 February 2 15 February 1 March 3 1 March 15 March 4 15 March 5 April 5 5 April 19 April 6 19 April 3 May Note: These dates are subject to change depending on how fast we cover material in
