Speech Production- Divided into sound source and articulation- Components of speech productiono Lung, larynx and vocal tracko Lung = Air source - Vocal box (Larynx)o Includes vocal folds and glottis o Modulate the air flow 2. Vocal Track- Transforms ‘buzzes’ from vocal folds into sounds of speech- Composes pharynx, nasal cavity and oral cavity- Oral cavity is most important part of vocal track- Mouth radiates more efficiently at higher frequencies (rise of 6dB/octave)- Typically 8ms in between puffs of air during speech for males and 6ms for females 3. Articulation- Process that transforms buzzing sounds to speech sounds by alerting the shape of the vocal track to produce resonances - Formants: Spectral peaks of a sound spectrum 4.
